The Hake Report, Friday, January 22, 2021: Twitter loosey-goosey and permissive with vulgar content (even related to children), but quick to take down innocent edginess, aka truth! Biden is horrible on immigration, jobs, and environmentalism. Lots of calls about imminent catastrophic man-made climate change, supposed mitigation policies, and the Paris Climate Accords.

Sleazy filthy Twitter 

  Twitter sued after refusing sex trafficking victim’s request to remove child porn…  

(Revolver / National File) The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in a federal court in California, related to the case of a 17-year-old from Florida, identified only as John Doe, who when he was between 13 and 14, had sexual images and videos of him widely distributed on Twitter. Sex traffickers posing as a 16-year-old female classmate SUPPOSEDLY blackmailed him to share nude content. 

After initially exchanging nude content, the victim was then forced to share more, otherwise the material would be shared with his “parents, coach, pastor,” and others, the traffickers threatened. Doe first complied under duress, the lawsuit notes, but then managed to block the traffickers. However, at some point in 2019, the child porn was then shared to Twitter from two accounts that were known to share this material.

The tweets were reported to Twitter at least three times, the suit alleges. Doe contacted Twitter and filed a report against the tweet when he became aware of it in January 2020, but Twitter claimed that they had “reviewed the content, and didn’t find a violation” of their policies, despite the illegal content reaching over 167,000 views on their site.

“What do you mean you don’t see a problem?” Doe replied to Twitter. “We both are minors right now and were minors at the time these videos were taken. We both were 13 years of age. We were baited, harassed, and threatened to take these videos that are now being posted without our permission. We did not authorize these videos AT ALL and they need to be taken down.”

The  Lawsuit says: Twitter only removed child porn after Department of Homeland Security intervention…  

(Revolver / NY Post) He even included his case number from a local law enforcement agency, but still the tech giant allegedly ignored him and refused to do anything about the illegal child sexual abuse material — as it continued to rack up more and more views. 

Two days later, Doe’s mom was connected with an agent from the Department of Homeland Security through a mutual contact who successfully had the videos removed on Jan. 30, the suit states. 

“Only after this take-down demand from a federal agent did Twitter suspend the user accounts that were distributing the CSAM and report the CSAM to the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children,” states the suit, filed by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation and two law firms. 

“This is directly in contrast to what their automated reply message and User Agreement state they will do to protect children.” 

The disturbing lawsuit goes on to allege Twitter knowingly hosts creeps who use the platform to exchange child porn material and profits from it by including ads interspersed between tweets advertising or requesting the material. 

Early Thursday, Twitter declined comment to The Post but later in the day, reversed course and sent a statement by email. 

“Twitter has zero-tolerance for any material that features or promotes child sexual exploitation. We aggressively fight online child sexual abuse and have heavily invested in technology and tools to enforce our policy, a Twitter spokesperson wrote.

“Our dedicated teams work to stay ahead of bad-faith actors and to ensure we’re doing everything we can to remove content, facilitate investigations, and protect minors from harm — both on and offline.”

NOT THE FIRST TIME

  Flashback: Twitter said that pedophiles could discuss their attraction to minors on the platform…  But whites, men, Christians, and President Trump can’t tell the truth. 

(Revolver / The Next Web) Reported a year ago: Social platforms like Instagram and Twitter discreetly change their terms and conditions on the regular. For example, last year we saw Facebook quietly introduce the ban on ‘sexual emoji’ that proved discriminatory towards sex workers and NSFW artists making a living on the platform.

Now, as Australian academic pointed out, Twitter seemingly changed its guidelines last March to allow public discussion about “attraction towards minors” with the agreement that “they don’t promote or glorify child sexual exploitation in any way.”

First reported by The Daily Dot, Michael Salter, a criminologist and coordinator of “Organised Abuse” — a site that shares ‘reliable information about organized abuse to professionals, victims, and survivors’ — highlighted Twitter’s policy loophole in a series of tweets.

Twitter thread: Over a year ago, Jan 2, 2020 Michael Salter tweeted: In 2019 Twitter quietly changed its terms of service to permit discussion about "attraction towards minors" with the proviso that "they don’t promote or glorify child sexual exploitation in any way". 

And he linked to their Child sexual exploitation policy (which has since been updated Oct 2020) 

Salter tweeted: This change was pushed by forensic psychs who treat “minor attracted people” and wanted a forum for this group to discuss their issues. Child protection and abuse prevention experts were not consulted, because we would never have endorsed this change.

BACK TO THE ARTICLE: 

In the thread, Salter argued that Twitter’s updated terms of service prioritize “the sexual desires and social inclusion of pedophiles have been prioritized by Twitter over the safety of children on the platform or in the community.” The criminologist speculated that ‘minor-attracted people’ may be permitted to discuss ‘attraction to minors’ because of encouragement from forensic psychiatrists who want their patients to have an outlet to discuss their issues. 

Adding to this, Salter argued that child protection and abuse prevention experts weren’t consulted, “because we would never have endorsed this change.” However, in a letter signed by various child sexual abuse experts addressed to John Starr, Twitter’s Director of Trust and Safety, last January, they argued that Twitter has the potential to be an important ally in the battle against child sexual abuse. But, “we are concerned that Twitter’s recent suspension of the accounts of prominent anti-contact, non-offending pedophiles may have been a knee-jerk response to uninformed public pressure, rather than a reasoned decision made in the best interests of children.”

Over the past year, Salter pointed out that pedophile networks on the social networking platform “have exploded.” At the time of tweeting this thread, Salter saidhe reported “a user who states he is attracted to children, advocates for contact offending against children, and has an image of him with a child in his bio pic.”
