The couple divorced in 1988, and nine years later, De Niro married African-American actress and singer Grace Hightower.

A new generation of famous interracial couples are popping up in the entertainment industry and even collaborating professionally. British screenwriter Ol Parker met actress Thandie Newton while working on a BBC film and married in 1998. R&B singer Robin Thicke began dating actress Paula Patton when he was 16 and they married in 2005. Thicke and Patton even co-starred in his 2006 hit music video "Lost Without U" - but she filed for divorce in 2014.
