Attempted stick-ups turning into fatal shootings. Robbers ambushing victims on sidewalks. Small-time crooks making their first foray into felony crime with violent thefts.

No corner of the District has been spared from a surge of robberies taking place on busy commercial corridors and neighborhood blocks in recent weeks.

The number of holdups reported by the Metropolitan Police Department has exploded this year by nearly 60% as thieves brazenly confront citizens outside bars, public libraries and the victims’ own apartments.

The wave of robberies are contributing to the sense of randomness that has accompanied the District’s stunning surge in violent crime in the first six months of 2023.

…. “I hate this narrative of ‘Oh, D.C. is so crime-ridden,’” cyclist Sabrina Valenti told The Washington Times. “But at the same time, you do have these absolute nonsense, out-of-nowhere, irresponsible people, it almost makes me wonder if they realize that they have the potential to take someone’s life away.”

Ms. Valenti took part in a memorial bike ride Sunday to honor Dzhoy Zuckerman, the 27-year-old bike messenger who was shot and killed during an attempted robbery just after midnight Saturday on 3rd Street Northwest.

(EdKrassen) BREAKING: The Guardian is reporting that Fani Willis has enough evidence to charge racketeering in the Trump investigation. Racketeering is a charge used often to go after organized crime such as mob-related crimes. It requires that there is the existence of an “enterprise” and multiple “qualifying” crimes. According to the report, Willis will target multiple violations of statutes related to computer trespass, and influencing witnesses. A violation of “Computer Trespass” statutes occurs when someone “uses a computer or network without authority to delete, alter, or otherwise interfere with a computer program or computer data.” This would likely be regarding a breach of voting machines in Coffee County, Georgia by individuals paid by Sidney Powell. Indictments are expected to be sought during the first two weeks of August. To me it seems almost a certainty that Trump will be indicted. The idea that these are racketeering charges means that we will likely see a whole slew of other individuals indicted as well. It also means quite an uptick in sentencing if individuals are found guilty. The real question is, will Trump be convicted? Who else will be indicted? Thoughts?

Farage took to Twitter on Tuesday, reading from a 40-page internal memo he had obtained from the bank. The documents, he alleged, showed internal correspondence between bank officials who said retaining him as a customer would be incompatible with the bank’s position as an "inclusive organization."

Alison Rose, chief executive of NatWest Group, which owns Coutts, wrote to Farage to apologize for "deeply inappropriate comments" made about him in the documents and said the bank has offered him alternative banking arrangements.

"It is not our policy to exit a customer on the basis of legally held political and personal views," she said in a statement. "I fully understand the public concern that the processes for bank account closure are not sufficiently transparent ... the experience of clients highlighted in recent days has shown we need to act now to put our processes under scrutiny."

Coutts has said it does not close customer bank accounts "solely on the basis of legally held political and personal views" as it comes under heavy criticism for terminating its relationship with Nigel Farage.

Emails shared with CNN detail the account of a trooper-medic at the border who called out the ALLEGEDLY "in humane [sic… must be an ESL RAT]" treatment against migrants. The trooper CLAIMED they "were given orders to push the people back into the water to go to Mexico" and were also ordered not to give them water — even though it appeared many were suffering heat exhaustion.

The trooper also called for changes to the latest Operation Lone Star policies brought in by Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott, which deployed thousands of personnel to the border. In response, Gov. Abbott released a statement that read in part: "President Biden has unleashed a chaos on the border that's unsustainable, and we have a constitutional duty to respond to this unprecedented crisis."

Crane specifically said, “Mr. Chairman, that was unbelievably inspiring, my amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve. Okay? It has nothing to do with colors of your skin — any of that stuff.”

Democrat Congresswoman Joyce Beatty then interjected and asked that Crane’s use of the words “colored people” be stricken from the record. She said “I find it offensive and very inappropriate,” before continuing “I am asking for unanimous consent to take down the words of referring to me or any of my colleague as ‘colored people.’

What causes this? It was obviously a slip-up, but people who slip up like this do so for a reason. Someone who doesn’t use this term with their friends typically doesn’t accidentally say it when they are speaking in public. Does anyone think this is OK?
