TEAR DOWN THE SCHOOL BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE WEAK?
(CNN) After 19 fourth graders and two teachers were allegedly murdered at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week, extraordinary trauma continues to haunt several survivors and the community alike. Questions are now being asked about whether or when a school devastated by carnage should reopen. In many cases, other schools affected by deadly mass shootings have been closed or renovated entirely to decrease traumatic reminders (SMH — Sandy Hook, the school library of Columbine, ). So-called “President” Sleepy Joe Biden, who visited Uvalde on Sunday, talked to Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez (a sleazy Democrat who scapegoated the NRA, Republicans, and Greg Abbott for his people’s failure) — Sleepy Joe said: "we're going to look to raze that school, build a new one," but plans to do so have not yet been announced.
We still don’t know what exactly went down with the cops during the shooting. (CNN)
FIND THE LEAKER!
(CNN) Supreme Court officials are escalating their search for the source of the leaked draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, taking steps to require law clerks to provide cell phone records and sign affidavits, per anonymous sources. The probe has intensified the already high tensions at the so-called “Supreme Court,” where the so-called “conservative” majority (it’s mostly liberal actually) appears poised to roll back a half-century of imaginary abortion rights and quote-unquote “privacy” protections.
Some clerks are apparently so alarmed by the sudden requests for private cell data, that they have begun exploring whether to hire outside counsel. The young lawyers selected to be law clerks each year are regarded as “elite.” They are overwhelmingly graduates of Ivy League law schools and have had prior clerkships with prominent US appellate court judges.
SPEAKING OF WELFARE AND ENABLEMENT
(CNN) Sleepy Joe Biden said the US is providing Ukraine "more advanced rocket systems and munitions" against Russia. The new systems will enable Ukraine to hit targets 50 miles away -- a range far greater than anything the country has been sent to date, they say. This will be the 11th security assistance package sent from the US to Ukraine (SMH).
At least 243 children have died and hundreds of others injured in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February, the Ukrainian prosecutor general's office said today, which marks Children's Day in Ukraine.
Russian troops are actively "storming" the eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk — Russians now control “most” of the city.
CHINA VIRUS HYPE
(CNN) Travel industry leaders are pressing the Biden admin to end its requirements that vaccinated international travelers take a China Virus test before flying to the US. Groups representing several major US air carriers -- including American, United, Southwest, and Delta Air Lines -- said yesterday the requirement does not match the current threat from the China Virus. They also say the requirement is negatively impacting the US economy. DUH!
Roger Dow of the US Travel Association stated separately that while restrictions on many other businesses have been lifted, "the travel industry remains disproportionately harmed by this requirement."
Others across the industry have criticized the policy as out of date for months. NICE.

INFLATION
(CNN) With President Biden facing near-record low approval ratings five months before the critical congressional contests, the White House has unveiled a monthlong focus on the economy. A recent CNN poll found that 59% of Americans disapprove of Biden, while 41% approve. As a result, the administration has sought to renew its attention on the economy amid widespread inflation worries. In fact, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in an exclusive interview yesterday on CNN that she was incorrect to believe last year that inflation was not a long-term threat. The White House is also blanketing TV airwaves with top economic officials in a concerted push to share Biden's message. Administration officials had been booked for 20 television appearances yesterday alone, according to the White House. Plus, Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech on the new monthly jobs report on Friday.
WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING
(TheSkimm) ALL MAD protecting imaginary Gay and transgender rights. More than 300 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have reportedly already been intro'd this year, with many targeting trans youth specifically. That means 2022 could be the worst year for anti-trans legislation, ever. Some measures would prevent gender-affirming care or bar trans athletes from school sports, while others would restrict bathroom access. All of these bills would impact trans kids — including their mental health.
Have any of these bills passed? Some. Alabama made it a felony to provide gender-affirming surgeries for minors, which could result in up to 10 years in prison. While Texas passed a law that directs the state to investigate parents for child abuse if their kids undergo gender-affirming treatments and procedures (think: taking hormones or puberty-blocking drugs). And Oklahoma passed a law that requires students to use bathrooms that match the sex listed on their birth certificates. Meanwhile, despite a challenge in federal court, Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law is set to go into effect next month.
What happens now? Lawmakers across more than a dozen states (like Colorado, Connecticut, and New Mexico) say they’re planning to provide transgender kids and their families legal refuge if they violate another state’s law by receiving gender-affirming care. Meaning, the states will not cooperate with another state’s anti-trans investigation. And in the meantime, President Biden is urging the Senate to pass the Equality Act, a law that would provide federal civil rights protections to trans and LGBTQ+ people. As he put it, LGBTQ+ rights “are human rights.” So far, it’s passed the House.
theSkimm: Pride Month is a decades-long tradition to honor the joy of being part of the LGBTQ+ community. And while many are celebrating, there is more work to be done.
SHANGHAI AND TAIWAN, CHINA
(TheSkimm) Shanghai. Today, China’s largest city — and financial hub — started loosening restrictions after a two-month COVID-19 lockdown. ICYMI: In March, the city became the epicenter of China's largest outbreak since the beginning of the pandemic. And since China has a zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy, that meant mass testing, mandatory quarantines, and 25 million people confined to their homes for eight weeks. During that time, some were separated from family members and food and medicine ran short, prompting protests. Now, after hitting a record of nearly 20,000 cases, Shanghai reported 15 new cases today. So residents can start using public transportation and going to stores as they open gradually.
...Oh and speaking of things on China’s mind: Taiwan. This week, the self-governing island accused China of sending 30 planes into its air defense zone — one of the largest raids this year.
