Stupid “celebrities” for defund the police
(Insider, June 3) All the celebrities who have signed an open letter to defund police budgets
Celebrities including Lizzo, John Legend, and Jane Fonda have signed an open letter pushing for a decrease in police budgets and reallocation of government funding to community programs.
The Movement for Black Lives, a coalition of black-rights groups, released the petition as part of their "week of action" from June 1 to 7 to combat racism and police brutality in the US.
The letter points to the deaths of individuals like George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor along with the black communities that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The letter states that police brutality and the disease are "connected and consequential to each other," noting that the American government has chosen to invest in police and military rather than healthcare.
"Despite continued profiling, harassment, terror and killing of Black communities, local and federal decision-makers continue to invest in the police, which leaves Black people vulnerable and our communities no safer," the letter reads.
Singer John Legend,
Lizzo (the fat one, a rapper?... who showed her butt in an NBA game),
actress Taraji P Henson (who infamously lied about UCLA cops who were very nice to her son, but she accused them of profiling and harassing, as I recall) urged people to vote,
actress Natalie Portman,
Singer The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye,
rapper/actor Common who also encouraged his followers to vote,
Infamous traitor / old woman celebrity Jain Fonda,
young actress America Ferrera,
actress Brie Larson,
lesbian soccer player Megan Rapinoe,
and actress Yara Shahidi.
Details
Legend the Grammy-winning singer also pledged to donate money to Movement for Black Lives, National Lawyers Guild, and The Bail Project to protect Americans' "first amendment right to peacefully protest oppression and injustice."
Portman shared a video of novelist James Baldwin speaking about race to her Instagram account. Portman added his quote, "You always told me it takes time... how much time do you want for your progress?"
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, signed the letter to defund police. He also posted screenshots of his donation receipts, showing that he gave $200,000 to the Black Lives Matter Global Network, $200,000 to The Colin Kaepernick Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative, and $100,000 to National Bail Out.
America said she's "enraged" by the amount of the money that goes to the police in her hometown of Los Angeles, California.
"In my home city of Los Angeles, 54% of the city's budget goes to police! OVER HALF!!! I can't even find 'education resources' on the Mayor's budget pie! A healthy society is not built on policing! We need healthcare, education, jobs and social services! If you're not enraged by this than you're not paying attention," she wrote.
Donating to bail out rioters
(Insider, June 8) Celebrities donating to protesters and organizations in the US
Numerous celebrities have shared on Twitter recently that they'd made donations to nonprofits that help bail out detained protesters across the nation.
Stars like Seth Rogen, Patton Oswalt, Abbi Jacobson, and Don Cheadle all shared screenshots of their donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, along with the caption, "Matched." Ben Schwartz, Pete Holmes, Sadie (Josh Benny), Nick Kroll, Jameela Jamil, Jamelle Monae, Mims, Kehlani, and many others.
Other celebrities like Steve Carell (the once-funny guy from the American version of The Office) and model Chrissy Teigen (nasty woman who’s married to John Legend), also got in on the action, donating to various charities that aim to bail out protesters.
Donating to bail-relief funds has become a popular way for people to support the ongoing demonstrations in Minnesota and across the US, which began after the death of George Floyd in police custody on Monday.
Ridiculous tweets and IG posts
Chrissy Legend tweeted May 30: In celebration of whatever the f*** maga night is [something Trump said], I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bail outs of protestors across the country…. Then she tweeted Oo they may need more money. Make it $200,000.
(Insider continues) Other celebrities who contributed to bail-relief funds include Harry Styles, who revealed that he was "donating to help post bail for arrested organizers," and the band Paramore, who gave $25,000 across three organizations (Black Lives Matter Nashville, Campaign Zero, and the ACLU) in an effort to support the black community and "be responsible with their privilege."
Mindy Kaling (who apparently deleted her tweet, like many people did, but Seth Rogan, Steve Carell and others didn’t), Blake Lively, and Ryan Reynolds also opened up about their donations to organizations like the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Campaign Zero, and the Minnesota Freedom Fund.
Harry Styles tweeted: “I do things every day without fear, because I am privileged, and I am privileged every day because I am white. Being not racist is not enough, we must be anti racist. Social change is enacted when a society mobilizes. I stand in solidarity with all of those protesting.” He went on: “I’m donating to help post bail for arrested organizers. Look inwards, educate yourself and others. LISTEN, READ, SHARE, DONATE and VOTE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BLACK LIVES MATTER.”
The dumb band Paramore tweeted a picture statement supporting Black LIves Matter, and black and LGBTQ+ communities. Disgraceful.
Blake Lively posted on IG horrific lies. So-called white female actress, married to Ryan Reynolds.
Ben Stiller donated for the dumb woman who filmed the police in the George Floyd case.
Nick Jonas tweeted: Pri & I have heavy hearts ... The reality of the inequalities in this country, and around the world, are glaring. Systemic racism, bigotry and exclusion has gone on for far too long, and remaining silent not only reinforces it, but it allows it to continue.
Nick went on: The time to take action is NOW. It’s no longer enough to say “I’m not racist”. We must all do the work to be ANTI racist and stand with the black community. In our first step towards our continued efforts to help fight this fight, Pri and I have donated to the @eji_org & @ACLU.
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner donated to several so-called “social justice organizations” including ACLU and EJI (whatever that is.
And musicians like Drake, the Weeknd, and Brendon Urie from Panic at the Disco have shared their donations to bail-relief and black-focused organizations, too.
The Weeknd donated $200,000 to BLM
K-Pop group BTS donated $1M to BLM.
Ex-pro-wrestler John Cena helped match the donation to BLM
