(Drudge) Hunt for cause of massive South America power outage begins… (AP) Lights turned back on across Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay after a massive blackout that left tens of MILLIONS of people in dark… but energy officials in Argentina were at a loss for what caused the collapse of their interconnected grid. They didn’t rule out a cyberattack but said it was unlikely. (BBC) Argentine media said the power cut occurred shortly after 7:00 in the morning local time on Sunday, causing trains to be halted and failures with traffic signalling. Empty streets… Public transportation was halted, phone and internet communications were disrupted, water supplies were cut off and shops were forced to close. Patients dependent on home medical equipment were urged to go to hospitals with generators. Power was fully restored by Sunday night. (Yahoo & AFP) This was the first time a power cut had affected the majority of Argentina, with a population of more than 44 million, and the entirety of Uruguay, which has 3.4 million inhabitants. Northeast of Argentina, Paraguay officials said that cuts there had been "momentary."
(Bloomberg opinion via Yahoo) Cyberattacks Make Smart Grids Look Pretty Dumb… The outage affected five South American countries over the weekend. People are having “smart” refrigerators or Internet connected thermostats that shut off at times to even out the power pull. But those create a port of entry for hackers to get in!
(Drudge) NYT: U.S. Escalates Online Attacks on Russia's Power Grid… (NY Times via MSN) The United States is stepping up digital incursions into Russia’s electric power grid in a warning to President Vladimir V. Putin and a demonstration of how the Trump administration is using new authorities to deploy cybertools more aggressively. These acts are supposed to be classified, and a response to the supposed “2016 election meddling” according to AP, or Moscow’s “disinformation and hacking units” around the 2018 midterm elections. Advocates say we’ve had years of public warnings from the Department of Homeland Security and the F.B.I. that Russia has inserted malware that could sabotage American power plants, oil and gas pipelines, or water supplies in any future conflict with the United States. They claim two administration officials believed the president had not been briefed in detail, fearing he might countermand the action against Russia or reveal sensitive information to foreign officials. Trump accuses paper of 'Treason'... Whoa. (AP) Trump tweeted: Do you believe that the Failing New York Times just did a story stating that the United States is substantially increasing Cyber Attacks on Russia. This is a virtual act of Treason by a once great paper so desperate for a story, any story, even if bad for our Country..... .....ALSO, NOT TRUE! Anything goes with our Corrupt News Media today. They will do, or say, whatever it takes, with not even the slightest thought of consequence! These are true cowards and without doubt, THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!
(Drudge) Iran says it will break uranium stockpile limit in 10 days… more later...
TOP OF SECOND HOUR NEWS: Monday, June 17, 2019 — Women’s Forum coming up third Thursday of the month, Thur., Jun. 20th, 7pm at BOND in Los Angeles. (Men’s Forums first Thursday)
(Drudge) Iran says it will break uranium stockpile limit in 10 days… Iran will break the uranium stockpile limit set by Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers in the next 10 days, the spokesman for the country’s atomic agency said Monday while also warning that Iran could enrich uranium up to 20% — just a step away from weapons-grade levels. The announcement is timed for a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, puts more pressure on Europe to come up with new terms for Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal. Trump had pulled out of the deal and re-imposed tough economic sanctions on Iran, deeply cutting into its sale of crude oil abroad and sending its economy into freefall. This comes after apparent attacks on oil tankers last week in the Mideast, assaults that Washington blamed on Iran. While Iran has denied being involved, it has used mines in the past against commercial traffic around the crucial Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s crude oil passes.
(Drudge) Moscow warns against 'baseless accusations' over the tankers… So Russia and Iran are acting like it wasn’t Iran! (Yahoo News & AFP) The Kremlin’s spokesman said on Russian TV, “Such incidents can undermine the foundations of the world economy. That's why it's hardly possible to accept baseless accusations in this situation. We always urge a sober appraisal of the situation and to wait for more or less convincing evidence to appear.” Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted that the US had "immediately jumped to make allegations against Iran without a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence." Tehran hints that the US could be behind 'suspicious' attacks… (France 24) Iran’s parliament speaker told other members of parliament (MPs) “The suspicious actions against the tankers... seem to complement the economic sanctions against Iran considering that (the US) has not achieved any results from them.” (Politico) UK to deploy marines to Persian Gulf… The United Kingdom will send elite forces to the Gulf of Oman to protect its warships amid rising tensions with Iran. British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Friday said the U.K. would make its own assessment, but believed the U.S. claim that Tehran was behind the incident. Saudi crown prince vows to defend… (AP) Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in remarks published Sunday that the kingdom will not hesitate to confront Iranian threats to its security. He joined the U.S. in accusing its bitter rival Iran of being behind the attacks on two oil tankers traveling near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital trade route for Arabian energy exports.
(Drudge) In the first states to legalize pot, teen use triggers concerns… (Wash. Post via SF Gate) The first two states to legalize recreational marijuana are starting to grapple with teenagers' growing use of highly potent pot, even as both boost the industry and reap huge tax windfalls from its sales. Though the legal purchase age is 21 in Colorado and Washington, parents, educators and physicians say youths are easily getting hold of edibles infused with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the psychoactive component that causes a high, and concentrates such as "shatter," a brittle, honey-colored substance that is heated and then inhaled through a special device. Each poses serious risks to adolescents' physical and mental health. With some marijuana products average 68 percent THC - exponentially greater than the pot baby boomers once smoked - calls to poison control centers and visits to emergency rooms have risen. DUH! In the Denver area, visits to Children's Hospital Colorado facilities for treatment of cyclic vomiting, paranoia, psychosis and other acute cannabis-related symptoms jumped to 777 in 2015, from 161 in 2005.

(Drudge & The Sun) Mom and lesbian lover mutilate 9-year-old son's private part and then later behead him ‘as he reminded her the dad.’ Mum Rosana Cândido, 27, and Kacyla Pessoa, 28, of Brazil, stabbed the boy over a dozen times and defaced him before butchering his body. The details are too graphic. The so-called lovers are said to have confessed all to horrified cops in about 20 miles from the capital. They face homicide, torture and concealing a corpse charges. They’re also accused of mutilating his privates a YEAR ago during a home-made “surgery”! They supposedly told investigators they used “rudimentary tools” because Rhuan "wanted to become a girl.” They sewed an improvised version of the female part on him. The mother reportedly claimed the lad was a “burden” and a hindrance to her relationship with her LESBIAN partner. She also "felt hatred and no love" for him because he reminded her of a father (unclear from The Sun whether they mean her own father or the boy’s father), who she claims abused her. The dead boy’s father told officers that the mother run away with the boy five years ago when he lost custody. Her 9yo daughter was put into foster care.
