(The Epoch Times) Supreme Court to Take Up Challenges to Biden’s Vaccine Mandates
In an announcement Wednesday (pdf), the nation’s highest (HIGH ON POT!) federal court said it would on Jan. 7 take up two separate disputes challenging the Biden administration’s mandate for businesses with more than 100 employees, and for some 17 million health care workers at facilities receiving Medicaid and Medicare funding.
The court, which has a 6-3 conservative-leaning majority (NOT!), delayed action on emergency requests in both cases that sought an immediate decision. The workplace mandate is currently in effect nationwide, while the health care worker mandate is blocked in half of the 50 U.S. states.
The mandate for health care workers was issued last month by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and affects roughly 17 million workers. It requires facilities that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding to require workers to get vaccinated, and has no testing opt-out.
(The Epoch Times) US Secret Service Investigating Hundreds of Fraud Cases Linked to Funds for Pandemic Relief
More than 900 criminal fraud cases linked to pandemic-related relief funds are being investigated, said a Secret Service statement issued Tuesday — potentially fraudulent activity nearing $100 billion related to the relief funds last year, estimate based on two previous reports by the Inspector General.
Most of the loss has come from unemployment benefits improperly disbursed.
“The exploitation of pandemic-related relief is an investigative priority…. Every state has been hit, some harder than others…. both federal and state programs,” they said.
The Secret Service aren’t just bodyguards, the department also handles investigations of financial crimes.
The Labor Department reported almost $87 billion in unemployment benefits could have been inappropriately paid out; the Secret Service seized around $1.2 billion in unemployment insurance thefts and loan frauds. Besides this, $2.3 billion fraudulent funds have been returned through coordinating with states and financial partners. WOW!
The amount of fraud could be overstated as the figures include mistaken payments to people who aren’t eligible for the benefits.
The Small Business Administration improperly distributed over $3.1 billion [in] loans and more than $550 million in grants to unsuitable recipients owing to a lack of adequate oversight controls, per their inspector general.
The so-called Justice Department prosecuted over 150 defendants in over 95 criminal cases in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) schemes. The DOJ’s seized over $75 million in cash proceeds, along with real estate and luxury items, from PPP fraud.
(The Epoch Times) Natural Immunity Likely Contributing to Lower Hospitalization Rate in South Africa Amid Omicron Surge: Studies
A high immunity among South Africans that stems primarily from prior infection is likely a contributing factor to the lower hospitalization rate the country has recorded amid the surge in COVID-19 cases after the Omicron variant of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus became dominant, according to a pair of new studies.
COVID-19 infections in South Africa have skyrocketed in recent weeks, but hospitalizations have risen much more slowly compared to the previous wave, which was driven by the Delta variant.
NOT READ: In the first 31 days of the current wave, 164,911 cases were recorded, but just 3,432 patients required hospital care, and 194 died.
In comparison, during the same time period of the last wave, 38,577 cases were recorded, with 10,088 requiring hospital care and 668 dying.
“We believe that the evolution of cell-mediated immunity from prior natural infection and vaccination is resulting in the uncoupling of the high case rates seen with the Omicron variant and the rates of severe disease,” South African researchers said in one of the new studies, a preprint done with funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The immunity is “primarily due to natural infection, with or without COVID-19 vaccination,” they added later.
In the other study, also not yet peer-reviewed, South African scientists said people who get infected now face roughly 80 percent lower odds of needing hospital care when compared to individuals who got COVID-19 from the Delta variant.
Additionally, people who do get admitted to hospitals have a lower chance of developing severe disease and are staying, on average, for fewer days than before.

(The Epoch Times) 4 Habits That Could Be Accelerating Cognitive Decline
It’s apparently common knowledge that a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet can hurt brain function and memory.
Dwelling on the Negative: Holding onto grudges, resentment, and ruminating on negative thoughts won’t just put you in a bad mood; it is also associated with cognitive decline and memory loss in people 55 and older. …people who dwelled on negative thoughts had more amyloid and tau deposits in the brain (WHATEVER THAT IS), hallmark indicators of Alzheimer’s.
Too Many Sugary Beverages: It might be time to reconsider that big glass of morning OJ (or worse, soda or sweet tea). A study from 2017 showed that sugary beverage consumption was linked to higher episodic memory and lower total brain volume.
Poor Sleep: Getting high-quality sleep is essential to a productive mind… going to bed and waking up at consistent times — and room temperature and brightness: You want your bedroom to be slightly on the cool side and as dark as possible.
Loud Headphones: If something is bad for your ears, it is bad for your brain, too. A study of 639 adults aged 36 to 90 found that mild hearing loss was associated with roughly double the risk of dementia. WHOA. (MUSIC ADDICTS ARE NUTCASES! DUMB LIBERALS, USUALLY TOO!)
If others can hear your earbuds or headphones, the sound is up too high. One way to test the volume is to hold your bud/headphone at arm’s length. If you can hear it, turn it down.
It’s also worthwhile to wear foam earplugs to concerts and sporting events. (I USED TO JUST RIP UP NAPKINS IN A PINCH IF I FORGOT.)

(Drudge) CHRISTMAS FLIGHTS CANCELED — 3,000+ canceled worldwide (20% in the U.S…. over 4,000 delayed) … DISRUPTIONS GROW
(Far-left AP) At least three major airlines said they have canceled dozens of flights because illnesses largely tied to the omicron variant of COVID-19 have taken a toll on flight crew numbers during the busy holiday travel season. I WONDER IF IT’S VAXX MANDATES CUTTING STAFF NUMBERS.
Germany-based Lufthansa said Friday that it was canceling a dozen long-haul transatlantic flights over the Christmas holiday period because of a “massive rise” in sick leave among pilots. The cancellations on flights to Houston, Boston and Washington come despite a “large buffer” of additional staff for the period.
U.S.-based Delta Air Lines and United Airlines said they had to cancel dozens of Christmas Eve flights because of staff shortages tied to omicron. United canceled 170 flights, and Delta called off 133, according to FlightAware.
The cancellations come as China Virus infections fueled by the new variant further squeeze staffing at hospitals, police departments, supermarkets and other critical operations struggling to maintain a full contingent of SO-CALLED front-line workers.
To ease staffing shortages, countries including Spain and the U.K. have reduced the length of COVID-19 quarantines by letting people return to work sooner after testing positive or being exposed to the virus.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian was among those who have called on the Biden administration to take similar steps or risk further disruptions in air travel. On Thursday, the U.S. shortened COVID-19 isolation rules for health care workers only.
