California’s Dixie Fire Grows Into 2nd Largest in State History
(The Epoch Times reported Sunday) California’s Dixie Fire is now the second-largest in the state’s history, having scorched more than 463,000 acres of land in Northern California.
According to data (pdf) from Cal Fire, the blaze—which destroyed the small town of Greenville—is second only behind the Complex fire in August 2020. No deaths have been reported, but thousands of locals were forced to leave their homes.
About 400 structures have been destroyed by the fire so far, the statement reads, while more than 13,800 others are currently at risk.
Relatively cooler temperatures and higher humidity on Aug. 7 slowed the Dixie Fire, which was only 21 percent contained, as attention shifted to the cause of the fire.
Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the California-based utility company that has been faulted for previous wildfires in the state, conceded that its equipment might be linked to the wildfire.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup ordered PG&E to submit its own drone surveillance, a description of the conditions and vegetation in the area, and its possible involvement in triggering the Fly Fire—which merged into the Dixie Fire.
Democrats, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, blamed the climate for the fire. Previously, some scientists and President Donald Trump have said that decades of mismanagement on behalf of California’s forestry management agency is at least partially to blame.
Newsom, who is now subject to a recall election, spoke in a dumb video after surveying the remains of Greenville and called for climate-related initiatives.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
“This fire has been a beast,” evacuee Jessi Roberts told the San Francisco Chronicle. “So many homes obliterated. We are a very small rural area, and we feel like we’re on our own. We have people camped out in the woods with children. We need help.”
Over 800 Unaccompanied Children Crossing Border Illegally Apprehended in One Day
(The Epoch Times) Border agents on Wednesday took into custody 834 unaccompanied children illegally crossing the southern border, marking the highest daily total recorded since the Biden administration started releasing such data in March.
The data, which was first reported by the Washington Examiner, came on the heels of preliminary Department of Homeland Security (DHS) figures indicating July border crossings by unaccompanied minors would hit an all-time high.
Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have been critical of the Biden administration for setting policies that they say are fueling the border surge.
The report drew a critical comment from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who wrote in a tweet: “Biden’s open border policy is a disaster.”
Members of the Biden administration have pushed back on the claim that their policies are what’s driving the trend, blaming seasonal factors, unaddressed “root causes” in home countries that drive people to flee their homes, and what DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said was a “dismantled” Trump-era immigration system that’s hindering the response to the crisis.
Wednesday’s single-day apprehension record came just days after David Shahoulian, assistant secretary for border and immigration policy at DHS, estimated in court filings that more than 19,000 unaccompanied children were encountered along the southern border in July, a new all-time high.

VAXX MADNESS
Hundreds Protest Vaccination Mandates in Michigan
(The Epoch Times) About 800 protesters gathered Friday afternoon on the grounds outside the Michigan State Capitol to rally against government mandates for vaccinations and masks.
Tammy Clark, executive director of the conservative group “Stand Up Michigan,” called for non-violent civil disobedience.
If we don’t stop this now, we won’t get another chance,” Clark said. “Let’s show the government that the employees of this country will not tolerate this tyranny. We have inalienable rights and we are not going to give them up. We must refuse to comply with the vaccine mandates and forced mask-wearing at all costs. If you lose your job, go out and get another job!”
Among the many health care workers in the crowd were two cousins, Beatrice and Christina, both nurses who potentially face losing their jobs if they do not take the vaccine.
Beatrice, a nurse from Troy, Michigan, told The Epoch Times, “Being forced to take the shot or lose your job is like me telling a patient, ‘Take your pills or I won’t feed you, bathe you, or care for you.’ Both instances violate the nurse’s code of ethics.”
Beatrice continued, “Christina and I grew up in communist Romania where doctors put things in your arm against your will. We know what this is. We lived under it. It’s communism.”
ICU nurse Christina added, “Imagine being banned from shopping for groceries at a store. Americans haven’t lived through that kind of tyranny yet. Many of our fellow health care workers feel as we do but are afraid to speak up.”
Pastor Jason Georges, who spoke at the rally, used his remarks to outline what he called the “immorality” of the government’s vaccination messaging.
“The Biden administration has been denying they are forcing you to get vaccinated but they have publicly stated that they intend to make your life so uncomfortable that you will have to take the vaccine,” he said.
“First, they take our rights. Then, they redefine our God-given inalienable rights as privileges. Then, they attempt to bribe us into compliance with promises of restoring some of those ‘privileges.’”
Medical doctor David Vella warned the crowd against what he called a “new age of medical fascism.” He labeled mandated vaccinations as “a coerced gene treatment” that violates the Hippocratic Oath, the U.S. Constitution, and every international human rights declaration, including the Nuremberg Code.
Vella said the American people are suffering from “a mass neurosis” of fear.
“Renounce fear. Shake off anxiety, follow the science. Stand up and fight for medical freedom,” urged Vella. “There is no other America out there coming to save us. We must save ourselves. If we do not use the power we have, we will lose it.”
The vaccination mandate extends to health system employees even if they are working remotely, one inpatient medical coder who wished to remain anonymous told The Epoch Times. “I am being forced to be vaccinated or lose my job. My last hope is a religious exemption.”

AND: Teachers’ Union Head Backs Vaccine Mandate for Educators
NOT READ: American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten said on Aug. 8 that she supports vaccination mandates for educators across the nation.
In an interview with NBC News, Weingarten revealed that the AFT, a union that represents 1.7 million employees in public education, is reconsidering its stance that vaccinations should only be voluntary.
“Since 1850, we’ve dealt with vaccines in schools; it’s not a new thing to have immunizations in schools,” she told host Chuck Todd. “As a matter of personal [conscience], I think that we need to be working with our employers, not opposing them, on vaccine mandates.
“And so I said last week that I wanted to bring my leadership together, and we are this week, to, you know, revisit and to reconsider our policy that we passed in October about voluntary … that the best way to do this was to do it volitionally,” she said.
According to a July 26 statement, more than 90 percent of the AFT’s educators and school staff, and nearly 80 percent of its health care professionals, have been vaccinated against the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus. Meanwhile, 70 percent of American adults have now received at least one vaccine dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while just a little more than half of the total U.S. population has been completely vaccinated.
Weingarten also said she has recently visited Florida and Missouri as part of the union’s “full-court press for back to school,” although schools in the two Republican-run states have stayed open for in-person learning since August 2020, and there are currently no statewide orders to close them in the fall.
“I have really watched, particularly in Florida and Missouri—I was in St. Louis yesterday, I was in Florida on Saturday—and you just see this, and we have to counter … the misinformation,” she said. “This is a public health crisis, and the politics are infecting it.”
While Weingarten didn’t specify what kind of misinformation she saw being spread in Florida and Missouri, the governments of the two states are running up against the AFT’s effort to make K–12 students wear masks.
Last month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order allowing parents to decide whether their children wear masks to school. As several major public school districts seek to defy that order and keep their maskmandates in place, Florida’s Board of Education announced that private school vouchers will be made available for parents whose children are harassed for not wearing a mask.
Meanwhile in Missouri, Attorney General Eric Schmitt is suing St. Louis County, the city of St. Louis, and Kansas City over their new mask mandates. He said those requirements aren’t based on science and ignore the emotional toll on children.
“I think it’s wrong given the data and the evidence and the facts to require school-age kids to wear masks all day long,” said Schmitt, CBS-affiliate KMOV reported. “It inhibits learning. It has severe social, emotional and psychological consequences that have been demonstrated by study after study.”
