J6
(CNN) The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill insurrection reconvened Tuesday for a hastily scheduled hearing that featured shocking testimony from Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson. She revealed how then-President Donald Trump and his inner circle were warned about the potential for violence on January 6, and how Trump wanted to join his supporters during the riot. It was previously known that Trump wanted to go to the Capitol, but Hutchinson's testimony established for the first time that people around Trump had advance knowledge of this plan. According to her testimony, Trump was so enraged at his Secret Service detail for blocking him from going to the Capitol that he lunged to the front of his presidential limo and tried to turn the wheel. After the testimony, a Secret Service official familiar with the matter told CNN that Tony Ornato, then-White House deputy chief of staff, denies telling Hutchinson that the former President had grabbed the wheel or an agent on his detail.
PRIMARIES
(CNN) Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Utah held primary elections Tuesday for several closely watched races. In Colorado, Republicans rejected three "election deniers" (CNN's word) running for statewide office. Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, who pleaded not guilty after being indicted on 10 counts related to voting machine tampering allegations, lost the GOP nomination for secretary of state.
On the other hand, the Democratic-leaning state of Illinois embraced Trump's candidates. Darren Bailey, a conservative state senator who was endorsed by Trump, won the gubernatorial primary. Bailey, in a debate, called Chicago a "crime-ridden, corrupt, dysfunctional hellhole," though he is seeking to become governor of the state for which Chicago is the economic center. And in Mississippi, Republican House member Steven Palazzo, who was embroiled in an ethics probe, lost his seat in a primary runoff.
BABY KILLING
(CNN) Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra in a news conference on Tuesday pledged to protect access to reproductive health care, including considering steps to increase access to medication abortion. This move comes after the Supreme Court released a decision Friday overturning Roe v. Wade. Becerra called the decision "despicable," and said it "unconscionably put at risk the life and health of millions of our fellow Americans."
Meanwhile, some companies, including Amazon and some large drug store chains, began this week limiting purchases of emergency contraceptive pills, such as Plan B, after seeing a sharp increase in sales, company representatives confirmed to CNN.
MONKEY POPS
(CNN) The CDC has activated a new Emergency Operations Center for monkeypox, an extremely rare disease currently spreading around the world. The Biden administration also announced its intention to beef up its response to monkeypox, detailing plans to offer more vaccines and tests to people who are most at risk.
NOT READ: The latest data shows at least 244 probable or confirmed cases of monkeypox in the US. Experts say it is spread by close and prolonged contact with an infected individual. Early data suggest that gay and bisexual men make up a high number of cases, but the current risk of exposure is not exclusive to these communities, the CDC said. Initial symptoms of monkeypox are typically flu-like. Next comes a widespread rash on various parts of the body with painful, raised poxes.

CORRUPT BABY-KILLING 'JUDGE'
(TheSkimm) Yesterday, a judge in Texas temporarily blocked an almost century-old abortion ban from going into effect. The judge said that the 1925 law — which had clinics stop services — had been repealed and goes against more recent state law. The move means that until July 12, some clinics can resume abortions without facing criminal prosecution. In the meantime, the state’s six-week ban is still in effect — meaning abortions must take place before many even know they’re pregnant. An even more restrictive law is set to go into effect in the coming weeks.
Lawsuits have become a last-ditch attempt for some clinics to continue providing services in states with trigger bans. On Monday, judges in Louisiana and Utah blocked trigger laws, with activists respectively arguing that the laws are unclear and violate equal protection clauses. Abortion providers in Idaho, Kentucky, and Mississippi are also pursuing legal action.
GLOBO HOMO NATO
(TheSkimm) Yesterday, Turkey agreed to support Finland and Sweden NATO membership. Last month, the two Nordic countries announced they want to make things official with NATO. But Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said ‘nope.’ He accused both countries of supporting a terrorist org, aka the Kurdistan Workers’ Party — which has called for an independent Kurdish state within Turkey. That complicated things, because applicants need approval from all of NATO’s 30 members. But now, the countries have agreed to no longer support the group, lift arms restrictions, and work on extradition requests, putting the beef to bed. And Finland and Sweden are on their way to being the new kids in NATO. The alliance will vote to accept the bid today.
EPSTEIN AND MAXWELL
(TheSkimm) British socialite and rich-man’s-daughter Ghislaine Maxwell (ghee-LAINE). Yesterday, billionaire Harvard/Democrat donor Jeffrey Epstein’s former “girlfriend” and longtime associate was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty on five of six felony counts — including sex trafficking of minors.
One supposed victim called her "the puppeteer."
The six charges Maxwell faced included...
One count of sex trafficking of a minor
One count of enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts
One count of transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity
Plus three conspiracy charges related to the other counts
After five full days of jury deliberation, they found Maxwell guilty on all the above counts except one — enticing an underage girl to travel for illegal activity.
ANTI-WHITE AIRBNB ALSO HATES PARTIES!
(Morning Brew) Airbnb makes its party ban permanent. The home rental company is etching its ban on “disruptive parties and events” in stone, citing a 44% annual drop in reports of parties at its listings since the policy was implemented. Airbnb first banned open-invite parties in response to a shooting that killed five at a party in 2019, then temporarily banned all parties and events during the first Covid summer in August 2020.
NOT READ: It’s relaxing some policies, though: A 16-person occupancy cap at large listings is being lifted.
FACEBOOK AND INSTA SCRUB ABORTION PILL POSTS
(Morning Brew) Following the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade, mentions of abortion pills on social media platforms spiked. Facebook and Instagram, reports show, have been removing some of those posts minutes after they are published.
Reporters at Vice and the Associated Press posted about mailing abortion pills on Facebook since the ruling, and sure enough, those posts were removed. In the AP’s case, the account was given a warning for violating company policy on “guns, animals and other regulated goods.” But when the reporter swapped out the words “abortion pills” for “a gun” or “weed” Facebook did not touch those posts.
In response, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone tweeted that the company does not allow “content that attempts to buy, sell, trade, gift, request or donate pharmaceuticals,” but acknowledged that it found “some instances of incorrect enforcement.”
Big picture: Abortion pills, which account for more than half of abortions, are considered to be the next front in the legal battle over abortion access. The DOJ has said that the pills cannot be banned because they are an FDA-approved treatment, but several GOP-led states have already moved to block residents from obtaining them by mail.
