You don’t have a right to bring them out of it.  //

Joe Biden lied, and US military died

(CNN & theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) A drone strike killed three US service members in Jordan.

Yesterday, “President” Biden claimed (without citing evidence) Iranian-backed militants used a drone to strike a US base (outpost) along the Jordanian-Syrian border, killing three troops and injuring dozens more — on Sunday. It marks the first time US troops have been killed since the start of the Israel-Hamas war DRAMA. Biden is vowing to retaliate, saying that while they don’t have all the facts, “we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.” An umbrella group for the Iranian-backed groups, called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, claimed responsibility. Iran reportedly said they “had no connection” to the attack, no involvement.

BTW: Over the weekend, at least nine countries, including the US, paused funding UNRWA — cutting off funding to the main UN agency for Palestinians in Gaza — following allegations by Israel that 12 of the agency’s employees (staff members!) were involved in the Oct 7 Hamas attack! The UN is “investigating” and said “any UN employee involved in acts of terror will be held accountable.” TOUGH TALK! The pause in funding comes as 87% of Palestinians reportedly rely on the agency for humanitarian aid. The agency could start to reel in services by the end of the week, if funding isn’t restored.

The US has had to walk a fine line to avoid an escalating conflict in the Middle East. Now, many are looking to Biden to take on a more forceful approach at a time when the Israel-Hamas war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza have no end in sight. WHAT A LOSER. WEAK.

Invasion…

(CNN & theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) Alejandro Mayorkas’s job under the microscope. Yesterday, House Republicans announced two articles of impeachment against the Homeland Security secretary for his handling of the so-called migrant crisis. One for allegedly refusing to comply with immigration law (specifically by letting illegals stay in the US as their status is reviewed by the government). The other relates to allegedly making false statements to Congress when he said the DHS had “operational control.” Last month alone, there were more than 225,000 illegal crossings along the southern border — the highest on record. The House Homeland Security Committee will consider the articles tomorrow before it could go to the House floor. A Democrat Homeland Security official called the articles a “sham.”

...Oh and speaking of immigration, “President” Biden said he'd “shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed” (YEAH RIGHT), if Congress passes a bipartisan immigration bill.

CNN: A possible border deal could head to the Senate floor in the coming days, Sen. Chris Murphy told CNN on Sunday. However, the question remains whether Republicans are going to listen to [Our Greatest] President Donald J. Trump, who has tried to tank the bipartisan compromise with evil. Trump in recent weeks has tried to kill the bipartisan legislation, in part, because he wants to campaign on the issue this November and doesn’t want President Biden to score a “victory” in an area where he is politically vulnerable. Components of the so-called deal include a new authority that allows the president to shut down the border between ports of entry when unlawful crossings reach high levels, reforming the asylum system to resolve cases in a shorter timeframe and expediting work permits. Sooooo dumb, they’re pretending. They don’t care.

Economy’s great! Lots of people getting fired!

(Not CNN but theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) “Remote” workers (who mostly don’t remotely work) may be talking about New data on layoffs. A report from the RINO outlet Wall Street Journal found that workers clocking in from home were 35% more likely to be laid off in 2023 than their colleagues at the office. The reason? Experts say managers factor in personal connections, which can be harder to create over Zoom. The report comes as industries like tech and media have given tens of thousands of employees the pink slip.

Feeling worried? Been fired? You can do stuff to prepare/cope, far-left AP “News” has tips like save money, prioritize your “mental health”....

Economy’s great! Bills through the roof

(CNN not theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) QUOTE: “More and more families can’t afford the cost of home energy. They are falling behind on their bills.” — Mark Wolfe, the executive director of Citizens for Citizens, a non-profit that helps Americans with their energy bills. Wolfe told CNN that the organization has been forced to cut the amount of aid it can give people in need as Congress moves toward allocating $2 billion less for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP.

More airline nightmare

(CNN not theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) 6 people were injured after an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles made a hard landing at Kahului Airport in Hawaii on Saturday. The plane has been taken out of service and the FAA announced it will investigate the incident.

Boring sports

(not CNN BUT theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) What’s one more reason this year feels like a re-do of 2020… The Kansas City Chiefs v. the San Francisco 49ers for the Super Bowl, Feb 11th, in 2 weeks.

Female rap

(Not CNN but theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion got the rap world dialed in. The two are apparently bringing back diss track culture. It all started when Megan released “Hiss,” which many say references Minaj’s husband, a registered sex offender. Last night, Minaj responded with a new song titled “Big Foot,” in an apparent jab to the Tory Lanez shooting (WHATEVER THAT IS). (I only like Tupac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” but it got him killed, maybe…)

Miss Japan is Ukrainian

(CNN or theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) Miss Japan winner spurs controversy: A Ukrainian-born model is sparking debate on what it means to be Japanese after being crowned Miss Japan. She responded to critics: “I’m absolutely Japanese,” said Russian-looking brunette Karolina Shiino, after winning the 2024 Miss Nippon contest.

Taxes

(CNN not theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) The IRS will begin accepting and processing 2023 federal income tax returns today. But if you’re not an early bird, the filing deadline for most people is April 15. If you are owed a refund — like the majority of tax filers — the IRS typically issues them within 21 days of accepting your return. Financial experts say the best way to ensure you get your refund as quickly as possible is to fill out your return accurately and completely, electronically file it and select “direct deposit” when asked how you want to receive payment. You might also want to review some of the most common and costly tax return mistakes the IRS sees to help ensure you receive a speedy payment.

Gas prices blah blah blah

(CNN or theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) The average price for a gallon of gas in the US is $3.10 — a significant decrease from the all-time peak of $4.67 in fall 2022. Still, drivers in many states consistently pay much more for gas than the rest of the country. California’s current average price is $4.49, largely due to environmental restrictions, higher taxes and a shrinking number of regional refineries. Hawaii is the only state currently with higher gas prices than California, but the state’s geographical isolation plays a large role in prices. As for the rest of the nation, analysts say gas prices will hold steady for now, even amid escalating violence in the Middle East. That’s because some economic factors — such as weaker demand in countries like China and Germany and an ample oil and gas supply — are superseding concerns about the violence in the region.

NOT READ: China

(CNN or theSkimm Mon 1-29-24) The embattled Chinese real estate firm Evergrande has been ordered to liquidate in a massive setback for China’s ailing property sector that could ripple through the world’s second-largest economy. Court-appointed liquidators will manage the company and sell its assets to pay off its debt. After the process is completed, the company, previously China’s second-biggest real estate firm, will cease to exist. Apart from a record downturn in real estate, investors have also been concerned about a myriad of economic problems facing China, including deflation, debt, a falling birthrate and a shrinking workforce, as well as Beijing’s shift towards ideology-driven policies that has rattled the private sector and scared away foreign firms.
