HAKE NEWS, Hr 1 | Fri 2-16-24

  • Kansas City shooting: half of the injured are kids. “Teens” in custody  //  Tiresome “legal” persecution of the President Trump  //

*Kansas City shooting

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) New details are emerging about the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration on Wednesday that left one person dead and more than 20 others wounded. At least half of the victims shot were children, authorities said Thursday, adding the incident stemmed from a “dispute between several people.” Preliminary findings have also revealed no connections to terrorism or home-grown violent extremism, according to Police Chief Stacey Graves. Two teenagers are in custody, though no charges have been announced and no suspects have been named. Additionally, a crowd gathered for a vigil Thursday evening at a plaza adjacent to Children’s Mercy hospital where several of the injured children are hospitalized.

*Persecution of the President

(CNN & theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) President Trump’s first “criminal” trial is set for next month, set by a [corrupt?] New York Judge. The hush-money case. Trump faces 34 felony counts for allegedly falsifying business records to hide a 2016 $130,000 payment to dirty video woman Stephanie Clifford (degenerates use her pornography name Daniels), from a supposed incident in 2005, the filthy woman running her evil mouth. The “criminal” trial, that judge scheduled to start March 25, will be the first ever against a US president.

The trial's expected to last six weeks, starting with jury selection. Trump’s lawyers and prosecutors have already gone back and forth about the questions they’d ask potential jurors, including whether they’ve read any books written by ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen — who’s expected to testify. Turns out, some have

Trump could face up to four years in prison for each felony count, which would likely be served concurrently. A conviction may not guarantee time behind bars, since he would be considered a first-time offender. Legal experts say Trump would also still be able to run his presidential campaign.

If Trump is convicted, some legal experts say he could still be president. It becomes a little unclear how that would play out if he’s serving prison time. Others say it would be an issue for the courts to figure out. In this case, Trump can’t pardon himself since it’s a state case and not federal.

Trump tried to delay this criminal case until after the November election, calling it politically motivated. Now, the leading GOP candidate is facing a historic trial and three other criminal cases. While this case may not impact his ability to run for the highest office in the land, one poll found a conviction could affect Trump's support among voters.

CNN: Meanwhile in Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis — who brought the election subversion case against Trump — testified in a misconduct hearing about her relationship with the special prosecutor she hired to investigate Trump and others for election interference. NOT READ: Trump has argued the pair’s relationship is a reason to get the entire case dismissed.

*Economy not so great after all!

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) Cold weather is keeping many American shoppers at home after a robust holiday spending season. New data from the Commerce Department shows sales at retailers and restaurants tumbled last month, likely due to the prolonged cold snaps across the nation.

*Delta flight forced to turn around due to creepy crawlers

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) A Delta Airlines flight departing Amsterdam had to turn around after icky bugs (MAGGOTS, STUPID CNN…which are ant or rather fly larvae right?) reportedly fell onto a passenger from an overhead bin.

**So-called same-sex “marriage” in Greece

(CNN & theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) Greece legalized same-sex marriage on Thursday, marking a landmark victory for human rights in the country. The decision, supported by 176 out of 300 lawmakers in the Greek parliament and with 76 against, makes it the first majority Orthodox Christian country to establish marriage equality for all. “This is a milestone for human rights, reflecting today’s Greece — a progressive, and democratic country, passionately committed to European values,” Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said. Parental and children’s rights are a cornerstone of the legislation, which will allow same-sex couples to adopt and receive full parental recognition. Previously, only the biological parents of children in those relationships were recognized as legal guardians.

Where more people can say ‘I do’ (LYING)... Greece. Yesterday, it became the first Orthodox Christian country to legalize same-sex marriage after a 176 to 76 vote in parliament. Since 2015, Greece has recognized civil partnerships among same-sex couples. Now, after decades of work by LGBTQIA+ activists, Greece is extending that to marriage and allowing same-sex couples to adopt children. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the new law is “a milestone for human rights.” Still, not everyone is ringing wedding bells. The legislation faced strong opposition from the country’s influential Orthodox Church.

China Virus mess

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) The CDC recommends people should isolate from others 5 days if they test positive for Covid-19. However, a new report says the agency may soon shift its guidance to say that people no longer need to isolate once they have been fever-free for 24 hours and their symptoms are mild or improving.

*IG and Threads are NOT for POLITICS!

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) QUOTE: “Our goal is to preserve the ability for people to choose to interact with political content while respecting each person’s appetite for it.” — Adam Mosseri, the Meta executive who oversees both Instagram and Threads, saying the apps will no longer promote “political content.” Media experts say it is unclear what Meta defines as “political” — or whether the move will restrict news organizations who post updates on the White House or the 2024 election.

*RIP Alex Navalny

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) RIP Jailed Russian opposition figure and outspoken Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny has died at age 47, the Russian prison service said today. Navalny made global headlines when he was poisoned with a nerve agent in 2020. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison in August after he was found guilty of creating an extremist community, financing extremist activists and various other crimes. He was already serving sentences of 11-and-a-half years in a maximum security facility on fraud and other charges he denied.

*Gaza drama mess

(CNN & theSkimm Fri 2-16-24) Israel raided the largest functioning hospital in Gaza on Thursday after receiving intelligence that the bodies of hostages were being held inside the facility. While Israeli forces said they detained a number of suspects in the raid, the Hamas-run health ministry said four patients died after electrical power was lost and oxygen supplies were interrupted at the hospital. With so much destruction in northern Gaza and the current offensive unfolding in the southern part of the besieged enclave, aid organizations warn that many people have no safe place to flee or receive medical care. At the same time, Egypt is building a new walled buffer zone more than 2 miles wide on Gaza border. The construction comes as fears grow that the already horrific humanitarian situation in Gaza will worsen, causing thousands of deaths and a mass exodus of Palestinians to Egypt’s border.

Hospital raid, theSkimm: Yesterday, the Israeli military said it sent troops into Nasser Hospital — the largest functioning hospital left in Gaza — to carry out a “precise and limited” raid in search of Hamas fighters and hostages’ remains. Israel said it detained a number of suspects in the raid. Hamas denied using the hospital or hiding hostages there. Doctors Without Borders said Israeli forces killed and injured “an undetermined number of people.” Local health authorities reportedly said Israel forced dozens of staff, patients, and thousands of displaced Palestinians out of the hospital.

YO THIS IS INTERESTING: Meanwhile, satellite imagery shows Egypt is building a wall near Rafah, the southern Gaza city holding at least 1.4 million Palestinians seeking shelter. The Egyptian government, which has been hesitant to accept Palestinian refugees, declined to comment on the new construction. Amid growing international calls for Israel to stop its military operation in Gaza, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu ordered troops to prepare for a “powerful” ground assault in Rafah to eliminate Hamas.
