*Airline MESS!

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Boeing’s problems are likely to disrupt summer travel.

In January, one of the world's largest aircraft manufacturers unlocked a new fear for travelers when a door plug on a Boeing Max 9 plane blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight. In response, federal officials grounded dozens of Max 9s and ordered Boeing to address its manufacturing process. The fallout has led to delays in Boeing’s production of planes, affecting airlines like Southwest and United. Now, travelers’ wallets and summer plans could take a hit.

Production delays are expected to impact flight options — both domestic and international — this summer. Southwest, which only flies Boeing planes, has already cut flights. Other carriers like JetBlue are also trimming their schedules. Experts warn limited flights could mean higher prices, with one analyst estimating up to a 10% increase on tickets. European carriers like Ryanair are also anticipating price hikes. Meanwhile, airlines like United are trying to find an “alternative plan” to work around the delays.

Ahead of its door plug fiasco, Boeing already struggled to meet demand for its planes. Now, consumers and airlines are bearing the brunt of the fallout, which could last for years.

BTW: Last month reported new baggage fees …

  • United, American*, JetBlue and other carriers charge passengers more to check bags at the airport than to purchase the service online in advance.

  • Airlines have been raising baggage fees this year to cover higher costs.

  • Executives say travelers who purchase checked bags ahead of time can free up congestion at the airport.

*Ex. American: coach pays $35 to check a first bag for domestic if booked online in advance, or $40 at the airport. American previously charged $30 either way.

*Persecution of the President

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Former President Donald Trump is quickly approaching a deadline to secure a nearly half-billion-dollar bond to appeal his civil fraud case in New York. If the presumptive GOP presidential nominee is unable to find the money by Monday, New York Attorney General Letitia James may begin seizing some of Trump’s assets to finance his obligation to the state. Filings show New York officials are first preparing to try to seize Trump’s golf course and private estate north of Manhattan, known as Seven Springs. Meanwhile, Trump’s lawyers acknowledged this week that he was struggling to find an insurance company willing to underwrite the massive amount. The bond stems from a ruling last month that ordered Trump to pay millions in disgorgement, or “ill-gotten gains,” for issuing false financial statements and false business records to inflate the value of his assets.

**Emmanuel Macron shows off his boxing skills

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Photos of French President Emmanuel Macron hitting a boxing bag have sparked mixed reactions.

**Ireland’s radical homosexual PM resigning

(Not CNN but theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Changes in Ireland. Earlier this week, PM Leo Varadkar (WHO’S HALF INDIA-INDIAN) said he would be stepping down in a surprise announcement. Varadkar became the country's youngest-ever leader when he was elected, and he was Ireland's first openly gay PM. His resignation comes after voters rejected a referendum he supported that would have removed language from the Irish constitution that referenced women's duties being in the home. The referendum also aimed to broaden the definition of a family. Now, Ireland's higher education minister, Simon Harris, could take over as PM.

**Mexico throwing their weight around

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Mexico is warning a federal US court that if its judges permit a controversial Texas immigration law to take effect, the two nations would experience “substantial tension” that would have far-reaching consequences for US-Mexico relations. Senate Bill 4, signed into law by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, makes entering Texas illegally a state crime and allows Texas officials to order immigrants to be deported. US immigration enforcement, generally, is a function of the federal government. “Enforcement of SB 4 would also interfere with Mexico’s right to determine its own policies regarding entry into its territory, undermine U.S.-Mexico collaboration on a legal migration framework and border management, and hinder U.S.-Mexico trade,” attorneys for Mexico said.

*Evil Apple sued by Evil Govt

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Apple. Yesterday, the IN-Justice Department and more than a dozen states filed an antitrust lawsuit accusing the tech giant of maintaining an iPhone monopoly. The DOJ says Apple makes up more than 70% of the smartphone market in the US, with Android being the other major competitor. The suit alleges Apple has stifled other companies from providing apps that compete with their products, like the digital wallet and smartwatches. It also alleged that Apple made it difficult for users to interact with Android devices. The lawsuit asked the court to block Apple from engaging in these practices. Apple said if the lawsuit is successful, it would set a “dangerous precedent.”

It was miserable.” — Dr. Thaer Ahmad, an emergency medicine physician who recently returned from treating patients in Gaza’s hospitals. At Al-Shifa, Gaza’s largest hospital facility, hundreds of people are still thought to be trapped after Israel launched a new raid on the complex on Monday.

Inmate escaped hospital and injured 3 cops (they got him later)

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) 3 police officers were injured after an Idaho inmate escaped from a hospital visit on Wednesday. After a 36-hour manhunt, the inmate and an accomplice who helped him escape were captured Thursday around two hours away from where the escape occurred.

*Newly identified fossil named after Kermit the Frog could help solve evolutionary puzzle(???)

(CNN or theSkimm Fri 3-22-24) Nerdy-looking Paleontologists have discovered a previously unknown ancient species: Kermitops — an amphibian that predates the dinosaurs and reveals the complexity of frog evolution.
