HAKE NEWS, Hr 1 | Mon 3-4-24
DEI going DOWN in FL campuses // Trump DOMINATING (except in DC lol) //
**Die, DEI! (The evil idea, not the people! We love people lost in DEI madness)
(Not CNN but theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) A top university in Florida has cut all DEI positions… To fall in line with a state law. Last year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed legislation that bans the state’s public colleges and universities from funding diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. He claims they are discriminatory and "woke" indoctrination.
In response, the University of North Florida and Florida International University put DEI on the chopping block. Now, the University of Florida — ranked as the top public college in the South by the Wall Street Journal last year — has terminated more than two dozen positions and pulled out of all DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors. The school said it plans to redistribute about $5 million in DEI expenses into a faculty recruitment fund.
And other states are ready to follow suit. Texas, for one. The state’s ban on DEI initiatives and offices at public universities and colleges took effect at the beginning of this year. In January, Utah’s governor signed a bill rolling back DEI programs not just at state universities, but also in government offices. Since 2021, Republican lawmakers have proposed slashing college DEI programs in 21 states, according to one analysis. The GOP is taking shots at DEI, saying the programs undermine education and are tools for promoting left-wing ideology. DEI supporters say the initiatives are crucial to help students of all backgrounds succeed in higher education.
In the wake of 2020's PHONY racial reckoning (in the name of fallen St. Georgia Florida), DEI initiatives garnered widespread support nationwide. Four years later, colleges are struggling to continue that progress for fear of violating the [JUST?] law.

**Trump DOMINATING
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Who’s stacking up delegates ahead of Super Tuesday… Former President Trump. Over the weekend, Trump came out victorious in the Idaho, Missouri, and Michigan caucuses. Meanwhile, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley picked up her first primary win in DC (the witch is POPULAR IN THE Establishment SWAMP!), but she still only has 43 delegates compared to Trump’s 244. Haley said she’s sticking things out as long as her campaign is “competitive.” Tomorrow, Super Tuesday kicks off with voters in 15 states heading to the polls to help decide who will be the Republican nominee. But today, all eyes are on the Supreme Court, which is expected to rule on Trump’s eligibility to stay on the Colorado primary ballot given his actions in the January 6th insurrection.
PS: theSkimm spoke to Haley last month about what the long game is with her campaign, plus why Trump voters aren't backing her. Listen on Spotify podcast 9 to 5ish with theSkimm.
CNN: It’s going to be a defining week for the 2024 presidential elections. The results of the 15-state Super Tuesday GOP Primaries should put former President Donald Trump even closer to the Republican nomination, and President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday will give him a chance to make his case to a divided nation. Over the weekend, Trump took all 39 Michigan GOP primary delegates despite party leadership battles in the state.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley also won the DC GOP primary — her first of the year. Despite the growing inevitability of a Trump nomination, Haley isn’t letting up on her fellow Republican: In an interview with NBC, Haley suggested she’s no longer bound by a Republican National Committee pledge to support the eventual nominee.

TX burning and CA snowing, God’s judgment?
(CNN not theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Will it end in fire or ice? Texas is still coping with the record-setting Smokehouse Creek Fire which has burned more than 1 million acres, while parts of Northern California were buried this weekend under a raging blizzard.
**CVS, Walgreens, FDA pushing aborsh pills
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Who’s expanding their “[dis]services” … CVS and Walgreens. On Friday, the retail pharmacy giants said they’re going to start dispensing abortion pills in states where it’s legal. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, at least 14 states have moved to ban abortion to some degree, including medication abortions — which accounted for more than half of abortions in the US in 2020. CVS said it will fill prescriptions for mifepristone (one of two drugs used for medication abortion) in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the “weeks ahead.” Walgreens will start off in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania at select locations. It comes weeks before the Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments on whether to restrict access to mifepristone. (THESKIMM FAILS TO MENTION THE EVIL FDA’s involved in greenlighting this…)
**Chin up, king! (another BLM public lynching of a white)
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Who people are remembering… Elijah McClain. On Friday, paramedic Peter Cichuniec was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in McClain’s 2019 death. The 23-year-old died after police confronted him on his walk home, held him in a chokehold, and paramedics injected him with ketamine. Of the three police officers involved, only one was convicted and sentenced to 14 months in jail. It’s rare for a paramedic to face charges, but in this case both paramedics were convicted of criminally negligent homicide for injecting McClain with too strong a ketamine dose. Cichuniec was also convicted of second-degree assault for unlawful administration of drugs. The second paramedic will be sentenced next month.

*Women’s sports
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Who's dropping buckets like it's her job...Caitlin Clark. Yesterday, the college basketball sensation set an all-time scoring record for men or women in the NCAA with 3,685 career points. The record was first set by Louisiana State University’s Pete Maravich in 1970. More than 50 years later, Clark is redefining women’s college basketball. Just last month, she became the top women’s scorer. Her jerseys are flying off the (virtual) shelves with Fanatics reportedly saying she’s become their top-selling college athlete. And ticket costs for her games have gone through the roof as fans clamor to see her shatter records. Clark's expected to be the no. 1 pick by the Indiana Fever in next month’s WNBA draft.
NOT READ: …Oh and speaking of setting records, LeBron James became the first NBA player to score 40,000 career points. In his 21st season, King James is still going strong.

**Gaza
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) Talks for a ceasefire in Gaza are still plodding along as more children succumb to starvation in the war-torn region. Negotiators gathered in Cairo on Sunday for talks on an Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal and the release of hostages from Gaza, but Israel did not send a delegation. Hamas has said it wants a permanent end to the fighting before hostages are released. Meanwhile, calls are growing in the US for an end to the violence. Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday forcefully called for more humanitarian aid and urged Israel to do more to allow it into the enclave, saying that people are “starving” in the face of “inhumane” conditions. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, told CNN Sunday that killing in the region “has to stop.”
**Invasion
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) A controversial Texas immigration law could go into effect this week if the Supreme Court doesn’t intervene. Senate Bill 4 would allow state law enforcement authorities to arrest and detain people they suspect of entering the country illegally. A federal judge blocked the bill last week, saying it could open the door for every state to pass its own version of immigration laws, but an appeals court granted a temporary stay. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott supports the legislation, which immigration advocates warn could increase racial profiling and detentions in the state. Abbott has been highly critical of what he sees as President Biden’s inaction at the border. Last week, Abbott said Biden should use his executive authority to handle the crisis. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas responded that it is the responsibility of Congress to agree on a solution.
**Supreme Court: Late news!
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) The Supreme Court may hand down at least one opinion today, driving speculation that the justices are prepared to decide whether Donald Trump is eligible to appear on Colorado’s presidential ballot (THIS WAS DECIDED UNANIMOUSLY for TRUMP, Per Prepham Paul, Hassan’s mother, and CNN per Nick). The court never discloses in advance which opinions it will issue, but there is a time element here: Colorado’s primary is coming up tomorrow on Super Tuesday. The ruling may also decide the matter for other states that have similar challenges pending. Arguments about Trump’s eligibility stem from the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist clause,” and challengers claim he disqualified himself with his actions on and around the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
*North Korea
(CNN or theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) South Korea and the US have begun their annual Freedom Shield joint military drills to bolster readiness against North Korea. The exercises focus on deterring North Korea’s nuclear threats and will incorporate other training to enhance cooperation “through air, land, sea, space, cyber and special operations,” according to United States Forces Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has drawn a hard line against South Korea in recent months, saying the North will no longer seek reconciliation and reunification and instructing the country to accelerate war preparations. North Korea has also fostered closer ties with Russia and provided Moscow with arms for its war in Ukraine. That sets up a dangerous partnership that could provide North Korea with more nuclear capabilities.
**MEMPHIS crime!
(CNN not theSkimm Mon 3-4-24) QUOTE: “What they said was … ‘Our young guys just need something to do; they steal cars because it’s fun, because there’s a lack of activities in their communities.’ They need ways to earn income.” — Memphis Mayor Paul Young, who recently met with some of the city’s highest-ranking gang leaders to craft a ceasefire and discuss ways to curb gun violence. The gang leaders told Young more well-paying jobs and training could help get young people out of the cycle of violence. Young took office in January with a focus on public safety.
