**All things FB/IG, etc went down!

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Facebook, Instagram faced widespread outages: Don’t worry, it wasn’t your cell phone reception or wifi. FB, now Meta, called it a “technical issue.” (NICE AND VAGUE.) 500,000 Facebook users reported down, 50,000 IG users, 10,000 for Facebook Messenger, and Threads also went down, that’s Meta’s wannabe Twitter / X (Elon Musk’s based platform).

Gold news

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Gold prices have hit another record high. Why are investors taking such a shine? It could be they’re betting the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates soon, or they’re using the precious metal as a hedge against inflation.

**Super Tuesday

(CNN & mainly theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Super Tuesday turned out to be predictable

Yesterday, President Biden and former President Trump moved closer than ever to a November rematch. Trump won 14 of the 15 states that held GOP presidential nominating contests last night — expanding his delegate lead far ahead of Trump’s former UN ambassador and failed SC Gov. Nikki Haley. She narrowly won one Super Tuesday state: Vermont (socialist Bernie Sanders state), making it her second victory of the entire primary season so far (after DC, the swamp)... college-educated suburbanites choosing former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley over Trump.

Expected to announce she is exiting the Republican presidential race. (She did later this AM, PT…)

Biden lost the American Samoa caucuses. In states like Minnesota and Colorado, many voted “uncommitted” — [SUPPOSEDLY] in protest of the Biden admin’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war — an issue that could affect him.

Yesterday's down-ballot races set the stage for some November matchups. In California, Rep. Adam Schiff (D) and ex-baseball star Steve Garvey (R) advanced in the race to succeed the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Meanwhile, Trump-molded Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) and Attorney General Josh Stein (D) won their respective parties’ gubernatorial primaries in North Carolina — a race that could influence the presidential results in the swing state. And in Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz (R) will face off against Rep. Colin Allred (D) in the Democrats’ latest attempt to unseat Cruz.

*BTW: North Carolina, tipped for Trump in 2020; they chose their two candidates for a high-stakes governor’s race: Democrats chose “moderate, strait-laced state Attorney General Josh Stein (first Jewish person in North Carolina history to win a statewide election,[3] per Wikipedia)” to square off with Republican nominee Mark Robinson, a right-wing firebrand currently serving as lieutenant governor [CNN oddly ignores that he’s BLACK].

**University/College DRAMA: Liberty, Harvard, Dartmouth

**Attack on Christians by ppl worse than them

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) The evil Department of Education fined Liberty University, a Christian college located in Virginia, $14 million over violations of a campus safety law. The department said it was the largest fine ever imposed for violating the Clery Act, which requires colleges to maintain and disclose campus crime statistics and security information. The violations included failing to maintain an accurate, daily crime log; failing to issue timely warnings to the campus community about reportable crimes, and failing to comply with numerous so-called “sexual violence” prevention and response requirements.

**Attack on behalf of J’s

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Harvard University has “absolutely failed” to comply with an unprecedented subpoena for documents on campus antisemitism, according to Rep. Virginia Foxx, the Republican chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee. The committee is investigating campus antisemitism amid protests and political displays tied to ongoing violence in Gaza and issued multiple subpoenas to the university in February. That marked the first time the education committee ever issued a subpoena since the panel was founded in 1867. A Harvard spokesperson said the institution continues to respond “in good faith.” The university has told lawmakers it will support the right to protest but not tolerate preventing students from exercising their right to learn, study, work and live.

**Dartmouth bball Unionized (socialists!)

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) …next big thing in college sports…? Unions. Yesterday, the Dartmouth men’s basketball team voted to unionize — bringing them one step closer to becoming the first college athletes in US history to do so. The vote comes about a month after the National Labor Relations Board ruled that Dartmouth basketball players are employees of the school since the school dictates how the team operates and the athletes are compensated. The players say that unionizing will allow them to negotiate payment in line with the compensation other student employees receive, as well as health care benefits. The vote could shake up the NCAA, which has maintained college athletes don’t need to be paid outside of scholarships. In 2021, the Supreme Court issued the first major blow to that notion, unanimously ruling that the NCAA couldn’t bar student athletes from receiving payments and benefits related to education, including cash from sponsorships. Dartmouth appealed Tuesday’s vote. Now, the case could wind up in federal court, which could delay negotiations over a collective bargaining agreement.

**Mama protecting DELINQUENCY!

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) What could be getting lower… (Some people's) Credit card bills. Yesterday, federal regulators finalized plans to cap credit card late fees at $8. Currently, regulators say those fees average $32 a month for a missed or late payment. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said the new rule will save households $10 billion annually. All major banks, like Bank of America, Capital One, and Citibank, have to comply with the rule, which is set to take effect in 60 days. But that could get delayed, considering the Chamber of Commerce says it plans to sue — setting the stage for a court showdown.

**Trump drinks a lot of Diet Coke

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Why Diet Coke loyalists may want to cut back on the drink… A heart risk. Yesterday, a study reported that drinking two liters (nearly six cans worth) of artificially sweetened drinks per week raised the risk of atrial fibrillation by 20%. Atrial fibrillation, also called A-fib, is an irregular heartbeat that’s a leading cause of stroke in the US. The CDC estimates about 12 million Americans will have A-fib by 2030. The often symptomless A-fib can be treated with medications, lifestyle changes, and if needed, surgeries. The study, which relied on data from more than 200,000 people ages 37 to 73 years old, is the first to link no- and low-calorie sweeteners with A-fib. Experts say more research is needed, but in the meantime, it’s best to stick with water. Gulp.

*Russia

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) QUOTE: “It’s extremely troubling that someone like Navalny would die under suspicious circumstances, but it’s also extremely worrying for me that this is the sort of thing that goes on.” — Paul Whelan, the American who has been detained in Russia for more than five years, speaking about his concerns over opposition figure Alexey Navalny’s death in a Russian prison last month.

Ukraine propaganda

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Russia is gaining momentum in eastern Ukraine, and soldiers and civilians fear what may come next. The recent string of seized villages aren’t big strategic gains in and of themselves, but they suggest a wider issue across Ukraine’s front lines, where soldiers have been critical of their leaders’ preparedness to defend territory. An equipment crisis continues to plague Ukraine’s forces as well. Some fighters in the region have criticized the US Congress for holding up critical aid to the country.

Gaza

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 3-6-24) Hamas said today it “will continue negotiations” to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, claiming the group has “shown flexibility” in talks. Negotiators are racing to reach a deal that would pair a pause in fighting with the release of Israeli hostages held in the enclave before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins Sunday. As recently as Tuesday, Hamas insisted there will not be “any prisoner exchange” unless there is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an Israeli troop withdrawal and the entry of aid into the strip. As talks continue, the World Health Organization and Palestinian officials warn hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza are at risk of famine. UN experts have accused Israel of “intentionally starving” Palestinians in the region.
