Persecution of the President
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) Former President Donald Trump posted a $175 million bond Monday as he appeals the judgment against him in the New York civil fraud case brought by state Attorney General Letitia James. This is a win for Trump’s team as the bond pauses any action that James could take against his properties in response to the judgment until at least September. The bond amount was lowered by several hundred million dollars by a state appeals court last month after Trump’s attorneys argued that covering the full bond on the $464 million verdict against him was not feasible. Also on Monday, shares of Trump’s media company plunged after it disclosed that it lost more than $58 million and generated little revenue in 2023. Trump is the company’s majority shareholder, and his net worth tumbled by more than $1 billion as a result.
*Storm a blew through!
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) A severe thunderstorm dumped softball-sized hail in parts of the central and eastern US Monday. Forecasts show the storm will intensify today as it rumbles from the Southeast to the Ohio Valley, threatening to unleash another round of dangerous conditions.
*Aborsh in FL
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) Where one of the strictest abortion bans is set to take effect… Florida. Yesterday, its conservative-leaning Supreme Court ruled that the state’s constitution doesn’t protect abortion rights, effectively allowing Florida's six-week ban to go into effect on May 1. The ban, which was signed into law last year, includes exceptions for rape, incest, and medical emergencies. Still, the measure will eliminate almost all access to the procedure in the South, where Florida’s current 15-week ban had made the state a safe haven for abortion. It's not the last time the state could see changes to abortion law. Florida voters will get to have a say in November on whether to enshrine abortion protections in the state constitution.
CNN: The Florida Supreme Court has cleared the way for a six-week abortion ban, but voters will consider a constitutional amendment in November that could potentially undo the measure. Monday’s rulings will make Florida one of the most restrictive states in the country to obtain an abortion and set up a presidential-year fight over reproductive rights in the Sunshine State. With the measure poised to appear on the state’s ballot, Florida will join several other states, including Michigan and Ohio, where voters have weighed in directly on reproductive rights since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The initiative will likely boost voter turnout in what is expected to be a close rematch between President Biden and Donald Trump.
Govt imposing “informed consent” on hospitals
(theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) …Oh and speaking of health, the Department of Health and Human Services is now requiring hospitals to get written informed consent before performing pelvic, prostate, rectal, and breast exams, especially if the patient is under anesthesia. …
(Far-left AP) … to “reiterate and provide clarity” ….
If hospitals don’t obtain explicit consent, they may be ineligible for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs, and also may be subject to fines and investigations if they violate patient privacy laws, Office of Civil Rights director Melanie Fontes Rainer said.
Doctors and medical students sometimes perform exams of sensitive areas for training purposes when a patient is under anesthesia. At least 20 states have passed laws requiring a patient’s consent.
(Far-left AP, 2023) Often, patient paperwork contains broad consent for a range of procedures that might be medically necessary while someone is anesthetized. But the documents can also include consent for educational purposes, allowing students to conduct medically unnecessary exams as part of their training.
Some doctors have called the legislative effort governmental overreach that will diminish trust. Supporters say the laws increase transparency and protect medical students from being made to conduct exams without informed consent.
Israel-Palestine war drama
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) The US is close to approving the sale of up to 50 American-made F-15 fighter jets to Israel in a deal expected to be worth more than $18 billion. It would amount to the largest US foreign military sale to Israel since the country went to war with Hamas on October 7. The transaction underscores the extent to which the US continues to support Israel, despite the strained relationship between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Meanwhile, Iran has vowed to retaliate after a strike it blamed on Israel killed two of its top commanders and five officials at its consulate in Syria, potentially raising the risk of a wider Middle Eastern conflict.

**Gaza feel-bad story… (anti-Israel propaganda)
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) In mourning… World Central Kitchen. Yesterday, the nonprofit group founded by celebrity chef José Andrés said an Israeli airstrike killed seven of its workers in Gaza. The Israeli military said it’s investigating “the circumstances of this tragic incident.” Video obtained by news outlets showed the bodies of multiple people wearing clothing with WCK's logo and passports from Britain, Poland, and Australia — potentially indicating the nationalities of the aid workers. WCK is reportedly one of the few aid groups delivering food in Gaza, where UN experts warn hundreds of thousands of people are on the brink of famine.
Finland shooting!
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) One 12-year-old child has died and two others have been seriously injured in a school shooting near Finland’s capital Helsinki, Finnish police reported today. A suspect in the incident, also age 12 and a student at the same school, fled on foot but was later caught by police, according to a local broadcaster. Police have not yet “provided details about the nature or severity of the injuries,” nor what type of firearm was used, the broadcaster reported. Finland enjoys a strong tradition of hunting and its gun ownership rates are among the highest in the world, but school shootings are extremely rare.
*Bird flu!
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) Watch out for the… Bird flu. Yesterday, health officials confirmed a person in Texas has been diagnosed with a strain of bird flu after coming into contact with dairy cows presumed to be infected. This is believed to be the first known human case linked to dairy cattle. Authorities detected the strain of bird flu in the animals last week at dairy farms in Texas, Kansas, and Michigan. The CDC and other US health officials said the risk of infection for humans is low. Health experts do not expect the outbreak to affect food safety or supply.
PCH collapsed
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) new nightmare unlocked… A partial highway collapse in California.
PICS: (AP) Motorists creep along 1 lane after part of California's iconic Highway 1 collapses
California State Route 1 - Wikipedia — SR 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway.
Evil minimum wage
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) $20 is the hourly wage for about half a million fast food workers in California. The latest increase — which is $4 higher than the overall state minimum wage — applies to restaurant chains with more than 60 nationwide locations. It comes after a yearslong fight by workers to establish better pay and improve working conditions.

**BASED Shakira!
(CNN or theSkimm Tue 4-2-24) Who has an unpopular opinion…Shakira. (Shakira - Wikipedia: Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, born 1977, age 47, has had two long-term “partners” per Wikipedia (bfs — first was Antonio de la Rúa - Wikipedia, 50, no kids?) — she had two sons by Gerard Piqué - Wikipedia (10 years younger than her! 37!): Milan (that’s a boy born on 22 January 2013)[84] and Sasha (that’s a boy, born on 29 January 2015)
Shakira graces the cover of Allure magazine and holds nothing back when asked about her thoughts on “Barbie,” the Greta Gerwig-directed blockbuster that topped the 2023 box office with $1.4 billion worldwide and earned eight Oscar nominations, including best picture. The music icon said she somewhat agreed with her two sons who strongly disliked “Barbie,” suggesting that it was a piece of pop culture that robbed “men of their possibility to be men.”
“My sons absolutely hated it,” Shakira said. “They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity.”
“I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well,” the singer added. “We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost.”
“Just because a woman can do it all doesn’t mean she should?” the interviewer asked.
“Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who have a duty to carry it as well?” Shakira answered.
Shakira’s interview is not the first time a public figure has perceived “Barbie” as emasculating. The fantasy comedy ruffled the feathers of some conservative figures during its theatrical release, with podcaster Matt Walsh condemning it as “the most aggressively anti-man, feminist propaganda fest ever put to film.” Bill Maher later slammed the film as “man-hating.”
HAKE NOTE: … Very interesting article (the lady who cowrote it was surprised by the backlash and passion, maybe)… Remember, Josh Lekach (sp) or someone said it’s actually based… wonder if Hassan or anyone around here ever saw it…
Gerwig, who also co-wrote the “Barbie” script with Noah Baumbach, weighed in on the backlash in an interview with The New York Times in which she said she never expected such a response.
“Certainly, there’s a lot of passion,” the filmmaker added. “My hope for the movie is that it’s an invitation for everybody to be part of the party and let go of the things that aren’t necessarily serving us as either women or men. I hope that in all of that passion, if they see it or engage with it, it can give them some of the relief that it gave other people.”
The backlash prompted other celebrities to speak out in support of “Barbie,” including Marc Maron.
“The fact that certain men took offense to the point where they, you know, tried to build a grift around it in terms of their narrative is right wing [explicative],” Maron said on his podcast. “It’s so embarrassing for them. I mean, so embarrassing for them. Any dude that can’t take those hits in that movie, they’ve really got to look in their pants and decide what they’re made of. I mean, Jesus Christ, what a bunch of fucking insecure babies.”
Shakira is making the press rounds in support of her new album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” Read her full Allure magazine cover story here.
