Hake notes from JLP…
JLP Hr 1 A thought is just a thought. Experts on Denzel quote?? Call start
Bible Thumper Thursday… 2 Corinthians 10: 5 (NIV) "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." All your thoughts [are mess]. You are the cause and effect of your own Hell. Nobody else is. Thoughts are just thoughts. … //
Denzel Washington clip with TD Jakes: When the Devil leaves you alone, you’re doing something wrong. When the Devil’s attacking you, maybe it’s because you’re doing something right. (Something like that…) Jesse doesn’t understand it. EXPERTS: Hake and Joel Friday discuss. Sean explains it was advice to Will Smith after the slap (of Chris Rock) at the Oscars. // Daniel in GA calls-in on this story, then discusses his mother’s spirit. …
JLP Hr 2 Caller mad at ‘himself.’ Supers.
Daniel in GA continues… Great call but Hake didn’t pay attention. He gets mad at himself. Who is the self whom you’re mad at? You’ve never done anything wrong. Forgive mother and see your wife. That’ll help your boys. … // (Post-break) Super Chats with Hake… // Thomas I think in CA — Jesse can’t play right now, maybe a lil later. // Ashley in TX (1st-timer) asks about anger … Great call (holds over) …
JLP Hr 3 Do this or that, it won’t do it. Return to the father.
… Great clips: Becoming a priest won’t help, helping the homeless, getting a girlfriend, etc. Only returning to the Father. Clip: Man’s mother punished father for leaving her by keeping son from him, and lying to the son, according to the son. A story of a killer… // (Post-break) …. More Calls…

**PAY ATTENTION!
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) If you tend to be easily distracted during work — squirrel! — you’re not alone. Medical experts say our attention spans are getting shorter, but a few mindful practices can help increase your focus.
*Debate MESS
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have accepted an invitation from CNN to debate on June 27, a historically early showdown that will set the tone for the final months of the 2024 campaign. The debate will be held at CNN’s Atlanta studios with no audience present — an anomaly in debates between presidential candidates. Republicans have for months been piling the pressure on Biden to debate Trump after the president offered non-committal answers on whether the face-offs would take place. But several sources say that the debate had actually been in the works for weeks, as the campaigns separately came to the conclusion that debates over the summer would benefit both their candidates and American voters.
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) theSkimm: Who’s heading to the debate stage… President Biden and former President Trump. After a whirlwind ride on social media yesterday (whatever that means), the two presumptive candidates agreed to debate each other. Mark your calendars: CNN will host the first debate on June 27 and the second is September 10 on ABC. This will mark the first time Biden and Trump have come face-to-face since 2020 and one of the earliest general election debates in modern history.
Trump's pending legal cases and Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas war could come up as potential questions. Meanwhile, RFK Jr could be feeling a little left out, saying Trump and Biden are “colluding” to keep him out of the debates. HAH!
**Evil ‘voting rights’
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) …Oh and speaking of the election season, the Supreme Court paved the way yesterday for Louisiana to use a congressional map that adds a second-majority Black district for this year’s election. The decision could help Democrats gain one seat in the House, increasing the party's chances of winning control of the lower chamber.
**Overdoses [been] on the rise: THANKS OBAMA!
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) What has people’s attention… The CDC. Yesterday, the agency shared preliminary data that found drug overdose deaths dropped by 3% last year, marking the first decline since 2018. The drop could partly be attributed to fewer deaths from synthetic opioids like fentanyl or overdose prevention, but experts say it’s still too soon to draw concrete conclusions. One expert reportedly said the number of deaths remains “catastrophically high.”
NOT READ: More than 107,000 people died of overdoses in the US last year, according to the CDC. The new data comes as lawmakers consider how to balance law enforcement with access to treatment.
HAKE NEWS, Hr 2 | Thu 5-16-24
Assassination attempt on “populist” Slovakian PM Robert Fico; ministers blame “hate speech” and division // Tom Brady says children “affected” by roast that went personal over his divorce from that Brazilian model // Miss USA drama // Gaza drama // Campus protest drama //
*Assassination attempt?!
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is in stable but serious condition after being shot five times in what officials described as a politically motivated assassination attempt. The 59-year-old populist leader was attacked on Wednesday after an off-site government meeting in the town of Handlova. The alleged shooter is in custody and no one else was injured, officials said. Slovakia’s defense and interior ministers blamed rising hate speech and division for the political atmosphere in the country, which they said led to the assassination attempt. Fico, an ally of Russia, was elected in October after running a campaign that criticized Western support for Ukraine.
**Tom Brady says his appearance on ‘The Greatest Roast of All Time’ has ‘affected’ his children
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) The NFL star agreed to be roasted by comedians on a Netflix special but now says some of the jokes hit too close to home.
**New Miss USA crowned amid ongoing turmoil at pageant
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) Amid a flurry of resignations (OVER WHAT, I DON’T KNOW… THEY’RE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY[?], BUT THEY SURE COMPLAIN), the new Miss USA, Savannah Gankiewicz, stepped up to be crowned on Wednesday in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“... With my background as a certified mental health first aid responder and training in anti-bullying suicide prevention. I understand, the importance of prioritizing your well-being and advocating for those in need. I believe that the true change starts from within and I am determined to lead by example and empower the class of 2024 and beyond,” she said.
Savannah Gankiewicz’s taken over the title from Noelia Voigt, who suddenly gave up her crown earlier this month. Voigt cited her mental health as her reason for stepping down, but her resignation letter to the Miss Universe organization, obtained by CNN, accused CEO Laylah Rose, of “actively building a culture of fear and control.”
Two days after Voigt’s resignation, Miss Teen USA 2023 UmaSofia Srivastava relinquished her title as well, writing on Instagram that her values “no longer fully align with the direction of the organization.”
*Gaza drama
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) A US-built floating pier that will allow for humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza was anchored to a beach today along the besieged enclave. The pier aims to “support the humanitarian mission to deliver additional humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians,” US Central Command said in a statement. Dozens of trucks are expected to begin moving the humanitarian aid ashore in the coming days, officials said, adding that no US troops had entered Gaza. Amid signs that Israel may launch a full-scale incursion in Rafah, aid agencies are warning any escalation in the southern Gaza city risks exacerbating the already deteriorating humanitarian situation.
*Campus protests (speaking of weak students)
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) Police arrested at least a dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of California, Irvine, as they cleared an encampment in front of a lecture hall on Wednesday. This comes as several pro-Palestinian encampments were removed from at least three other college campuses in recent days as schools across the country continue to call in law enforcement to quell demonstrations. Additionally, at least 50 professors have been detained at campus protests across the country in the last month, according to a CNN review. Since April 18, more than 2,400 students have been arrested amid protests on more than 50 campuses.

*Student loan SPOILING drama
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) …Oh and speaking of hurting wallets, the Biden admin extended its deadline for student loan consolidation until June 30. Those who qualify could see their debt forgiven sooner than others.
**You are not alone, Ukraine
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) QUOTE: “I have come to Ukraine with a message: You are not alone.” — US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, sharing a speech during a surprise trip to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv (Kiev). Blinken on Wednesday reaffirmed US support for Ukraine with an additional $2 billion in military financing amid Russia’s advances. Meanwhile, Chinese leader Xi Jinping welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Beijing today as the two leaders bind their countries closer in the face of Western sanctions.
Media downplaying bad economy / inflation
(CNN or theSkimm Thu 5-16-24) What’s easing up a little bit… Inflation. Yesterday, the Labor Department reported that consumer prices rose by 0.3% in April, a slight decline (OF INCREASE) from the previous month. That might not seem like much of a change, but the Federal Reserve could welcome the “drop” after inflation remained stubbornly high for the first three months of the year. It’s not clear if it’ll be enough for the Fed to cut interest rates.
