Mess! Daniel Rodriguez, a pro-Trump extremist who electroshocked Metropolitan Police Officer Mike Fanone on Jan. 6, was in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday trying to get his videotaped confession to the FBI tossed on the grounds that special agents engaged in “coercive questioning” and that Rodriguez wasn’t properly advised of his rights.

But U.S. District OBAMA Judge Amy Berman Jackson indicated on Tuesday that she’ll likely allow most of Rodriguez’s admission to be used if he goes to trial, finding that only a brief portion of the interview that took place before Rodriguez was advised of his Miranda rights had to be suppressed. She’ll issue a final ruling down the road, after watching the entirety of the more than three-hour interview herself.

Rodriguez, also known as Danny Rodriguez and D.J. Rodriguez, was arrested by the FBI in March, a month after HuffPost named him as the Capitol rioter who electroshocked Fanone when he was seized by the violent mob seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

After the FBI arrested Rodriguez in March, agents told him that he needed to talk to them to combat the story being told by “antifa, BLM, and the Huffington Post.”

…. Former President Donald Trump, during a speech before cops in 2017, encouraged police to brutalize suspects by slamming their heads into car doors when they place them under arrest. [HAHA!] Attorneys for Rodriguez, an enthusiastic Trump supporter who attempted to join the U.S. Army after Trump became president, tried to argue that the traumatic experience of being arrested by the FBI at his home at 6 a.m. was coercive.

Rodriguez, who is being held in the Northern Neck Regional Jail outside of Washington, D.C., was wearing a forest green prison jumpsuit during his court appearance on Tuesday. He chatted with his federal public defenders, who are based in Las Vegas, asking them how their trip to the capital was going and whether they’d get to see the sights before they flew back home. (Because of the massive scope of the Jan. 6 investigation, both prosecutors and federal public defenders from all across the country have been brought in to help.)

Under Jackson’s ruling, Rodriguez’s pre-Miranda admissions won’t be admissible at trial. In that portion of the video, Rodriguez describes himself as “so weak” as he cries about his actions that led to his arrest.

“Oh, God. I shouldn’t be crying,” he said before being advised of his rights. “I’m a grown man and I knew what I was doing.”

After being told he had a right to remain silent and get an attorney, and signing a form acknowledging those rights, Rodriguez went on to confess to electroshocking Fanone, who suffered a heart attack.

“I really don’t know exactly why I Tased him,” Rodriguez said. “I mean, when I Tased him, I really ― you know, like, when you do something, you’re like, goddamnit, why did I do that? I just ― I had ― got caught up in the moment and I didn’t really think. I didn’t think about him and his family and what was going to happen to him.”

…. The FBI has made more than 650 arrests in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, a bit over one-fourth of the total number of potential defendants who either unlawfully entered the Capitol building or assaulted law enforcement and members of the media outside. The FBI is still looking for over 350 defendants who engaged in violence on Jan. 6, including more than 250 members of the pro-Trump mob who assaulted law enforcement.

DETAILS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAD IT UP

(Wash. Compost, by Gillian Brockell yesterday 12/7/21) The statue was ordered taken down by the executor of the estate of Bill Dorris, the Nashville businessman who erected it there in 1998, according to News Channel 5 in Nashville.

 Dorris didn’t pretend to like the work of the sculptor, his friend Jack Kershaw. But that was beside the point.

“As an artist, mediocre,” Dorris told public-radio station WPLN in 2011. “As a thinker, he was way ahead of his time.”

Kershaw was a co-founder of the white supremacist group League of the South, and as a lawyer defended James Earl Ray, the man convicted of assassinating the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 

Kershaw once told the Times-Picayune of New Orleans that “somebody needs to say a good word for slavery” — that somebody, of course, being him.

Dorris, for his part, said slavery was a form of “social security” for African Americans and argued that he could not be racist because he had many Black people “working for him.”

Kershaw constructed the statue using materials from Dorris’s business, which made bathtubs for the elderly.

When Dorris died in 2020, he left his assets to be divided among the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Battle of Nashville Trust and his border collie, Lulu.

Of the Confederate leaders whose legacies have been reconsidered (TO PUT IT IN VAGUE COMMUNIST TERMS) in the past several decades, perhaps none has experienced as severe an about-face as Forrest. As late as the 1990s, actor Tom Hanks, as the main character in the hit movie “Forrest Gump,” described being named after “the great Civil War hero.” Beloved Southern novelist and historian Shelby Foote kept a portrait of Forrest on his desk, and in Ken Burns’s massively popular documentary series “The Civil War,” Foote described Forrest as a “genius” and “born to be a soldier the way John Keats was born to be a poet.”

In recent years, the revisionist shimmer on his deeds has worn off (YEAH OK), and he has been accurately described as a slave trader, the commanding officer who oversaw the massacre of hundreds Black Union soldiers at Fort Pillow (DUH, IT’S A WAR!), and the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan (BETTER THAN BLACK LIVES MATTER OR ANTIFA). 

In June, his remains were exhumed from a Memphis park named after him, and the park has since been renamed. A bust of Forrest in the Tennessee Capitol building also has been removed.

ROUGH QUOTE: I’ve been in Congress for almost three years now; their two types of members of Congress. There’s performance artists, and there’s legislators. The performance artists are the ones who get all of the attention. The ones who you think are more conservative because they know how to say slogans real well. They know how to recite the lines they know that our voters want to hear.

Let me tell you something. In the first two years of Trump’s presidency, when Republicans were in control when every single time were voting on Donald Trump’s agenda, who do think was at the top of that list, and who do you think was at the bottom? A lot of names you would recognize were at the bottom of that list. A lot of names you would recognize were at the top of that list. 

Number two, which will probably make you cringe a little bit, is Adam Kinzinger. He voted with Trump 99% of the time. He was number two. Do you know who was at the bottom? Everybody in the Freedom Caucus. All of them.

What you hear so often is not true. It’s not true. We have grifters in our midst….lie, after lie after lie, because they know something psychologically about the conservative heart. We’re worried about what they are going to do us. What they are going to infringe upon us.

I took in Deadline’s headline: “Mel Gibson in Talks to Direct Lethal Weapon 5.”

Gibson is a well-known Jew-hater (anti-Semite is too mild).

…what does a guy have to do these days to get put on Hollywood’s no-fly list? I’m a character actor. I tend to take the jobs that come my way. But—and this hurts to write—you couldn’t pay me enough to work with Mel Gibson.

Now, I love the Lethal Weapon movies (at least the first few). And Danny Glover’s a gem. But Gibson? Yes, he’s a talented man. Many horrible people produce wonderful art. Put me down as an ardent fan of Roald Dahl, Pablo Picasso, and Edith Wharton; can’t get enough of what they’re selling. But these three had the good taste to die. [WHAT AN EVIL PERSON!]

Gibson’s political beliefs are—as my father would say—somewhere to the right of Ramses (check out YouTube to see Gibson saluting Donald Trump at a UFC fight). He has said sexist things and yelled racist slurs, and that should have been enough for liberal Hollywood to cut him off. But his reported anti-Semitism has been more consistent, more open, and more egregious.

The fact that this doesn’t seem to bother Warner Bros. executives makes me wonder if, to them, “Jews don’t count”

Comic David Baddiel, a British Jew, argues that “polite” society treats anti-Semitism as a semi-acceptable form of prejudice. And most maddening and confusing is that the anti-racist, progressive left often seems to tolerate and, at times, produce it. It breaks my heart to ponder how many Jews must have been part of the process that led to Warner Bros.’ announcement. [WEAK!]

Jews were the victims in more than 50 percent of religious-based hate crimes last year. In recent years, we’ve witnessed the Tree of Life massacre in Pittsburgh, the murder at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in California, Jewish students harassed on college campuses, European anti-Semitism on the rise—these are the headlines that make us feel unsafe. Is this really the time to glorify a man like Mel Gibson?

Yes, he has denied some of the stories of his anti-Semitism, like the time Winona Ryder said he asked her if she was an “oven dodger” at a party. Color me unconvinced. This is the man who directed and co-wrote The Passion of the Christ, a film that, in addition to earning Rotten Tomatoes’ highest audience score for a film in Aramaic (as of this writing), is also a gleeful attack on my people, portraying Jews as eager Christ-killers, a libel that has been used as an excuse to torment and murder Jews for two millennia.

In 2006, a fershnikit Gibson was pulled over on Malibu’s Pacific Coast Highway and detained for drunk driving. In the back of the police car, Gibson reportedly went on an anti-Semitic tirade, prompted by his (correct) suspicion that his arresting officer was Jewish. “Fucking Jews,” Gibson said. “The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” Gibson later claimed that, under the influence of alcohol, he had said things he didn’t actually believe….

In 2010, recordings of voicemails and phone calls between Gibson and his then-girlfriend (and mother of his child) Oksana Grigorieva were publicly released. I recognize that my argument that anti-Semitism is somehow singularly excusable is undermined by what these recordings show, which is that in addition to being a rabid anti-Semite, Gibson also has deep malice toward women and people of color in his heart. Lowlights include Gibson’s telling Grigorieva, “If you get raped by a pack of niggers, it’ll be your fault” and “Shut the fuck up! You should just fucking smile, and blow me! ’Cause I deserve it!”

Gibson pleaded “no contest” to a charge of domestic battery against Grigorieva in 2011.

How can Warner Bros. (a company founded by Jews) possibly consider hiring this man again? On its parent company’s website I found a very laudable “inclusion” policy. It reads, in part, “WarnerMedia is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, as moral and business imperatives. It is essential that our workforce, content and creative partners reflect the diversity of our society and the world around us.”

Beautiful. Really. But may I humbly suggest that in addition to a robust inclusion policy, Warner Bros. needs an equally robust exclusion policy? How about “Don’t hire racist, anti-Semitic misogynists”? Free advice: Avoid this trifecta.

And it’s not just Warner Bros. that’s wearing moral blinders. “MORAL”!
