CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS WAS A HERO, NOT SO MUCH INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
(Morning Brew) Today is Columbus Day and, in more than 100 cities and several states, Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Most banks are closed and the USPS will not deliver mail, but the stock market is open for business.
Very Fake CNN puts it the other way around, saying: “It's Indigenous Peoples' Day (or Columbus Day, depending on where you are)...some businesses may be closed today, too, since it's a federal holiday.
The Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 stated against the King of England: "He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."
Some American Indians, I assume, are good people! Shoutout to the real American Indians who love white people and America!
VIRGINIA
(CNN) The Virginia gubernatorial race is tightening ahead of the state’s election on November 2. Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe recently said President Joe Biden’s political challenges are dragging down his election chances, but downplayed the comments this weekend, urging Congress instead to pass the looming $1.2 trillion COMMIE infrastructure bill. If McAuliffe loses to Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin, it will send shockwaves through the Democratic Party. Remember, Biden won Virginia by 10 percentage points in 2020 (ALLEGEDLY / REPORTEDLY).
US MET WITH TALIBAN
(CNN) A US delegation met with representatives of the Taliban in Doha, Qatar, this weekend. It was the first such meeting since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan at the end of August. The parties discussed the continued safe passage of Americans and American allies from Afghanistan, and the facilitation of "humanitarian aid," among other topics. The CORRUPT US State Department called the talks “candid and professional,” but said the Taliban will be judged on actions, not just words. BACK AT YA!
MOSTLY PEACEFUL CAPITOL PROTEST
(CNN) An (UNNAMED??) whistleblower identifying as a former high-ranking US Capitol Police official with more than 30 years of service has written a letter to Congress excoriating the actions of police leadership around the time of the January 6 insurrection. A lot of the criticism mirrors that of Senate Judiciary reports -- that some Capitol Police officials did not share vital intelligence before the riot and didn’t help officers during. However, the whistleblower focuses on department leadership, and accuses some congressional leaders of having "purposefully failed" to tell the truth about the department's failures.
…Toss-up whether there’s some honesty there.
SOUTHWEST
(CNN) Southwest Airlines cancels more than 1,000 flights Sunday, which is about 27% of its daily operations
(Daily Brew) It also canceled over 800 flights on Saturday. Southwest blamed air traffic control issues, a staffing shortage, and disruptive weather, but no other airlines seemed to have problems.
The FAA said in a statement that yeah, there were a few hours of delays due to staffing issues...in Jacksonville, FL. But that had been resolved Friday.
What could be contributing to the cancellations: Southwest runs a point-to-point route network, where a single delay can create an avalanche of other flight disruptions.
NOT READ: Likely not related, but interesting context: After Southwest decided last week to implement a vaccine mandate, pilots in Dallas, where Southwest is based, planned a “sickout” to protest the rule. The pilots union has denied any organized strike, but did warn the airline that requiring pilots to get vaccinated could lead to flight disruptions.
Bottom line: The timing couldn’t be worse for Southwest. People are actively booking flights for their winter vacations right now, and anyone longing for a beach wants to stay as far away from the word “cancellation” as possible.—MM

EVIL JUDGE: (The Epoch Times) Federal Judge Rules Against Natural Immunity Claim Challenging COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate
An employee at the school, Jeanna Norris, filed a lawsuit against the mandate and asked a judge to intervene on the basis that she had already contracted COVID-19 and recovered. She presented two antibody tests showing her previous infection, and her doctors told her that she didn’t need to get the vaccine at this time.
Despite her natural immunity, Norris faces termination from the university for not complying with the school’s mandate that all students and staff get the shot unless they have a medical or religious exemption.
U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, declined her lawsuit. The mandate, Maloney said, didn’t violate her fundamental rights and pointed to a 1905 Supreme Court ruling.
“This Court must apply the law from the Supreme Court: Jacobson essentially applied rational basis review and found that the vaccine mandate was rational in ‘protect[ing] the public health and public safety,’” Maloney said in his order. “The Court cannot ignore this binding precedent.”
