Flu shot propaganda!
(CNN not theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) The CDC recommends that everyone age 6 months and older get a seasonal flu vaccine each year, but fewer than half of Americans get vaccinated. To boost the nation’s uptake, the agency is reviewing a nasal spray flu vaccine that can be self-administered. If approved, you may be able to take your flu vaccine at home next season.

(CNN & theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) Since the deadly terror attack on October 7th, foreign governments — including the US — have been working to secure the release of hundreds of hostages. Yesterday, Hamas released two more hostages: 79-year-old Nurit Cooper and friend/neighbor 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz (“I went through hell,” she said in a media conference today…taken thru Hamas’ huge network of tunnels, “looks like a spiderweb.”), taken from Kibbutz Nir Oz — one of the many towns and villages in southern Israel that Hamas attacked. This comes after two others — a mother and daughter with dual US-Israeli citizenship (SMH) — were released on Friday. Hamas said it authorized yesterday's release for “compelling humanitarian” reasons. The Israeli military has yet to comment.
The IDF said it believes there are still an estimated 220 hostages, potentially including 10 Americans, in Gaza. There are talks that Hamas is prepared to release 50 hostages in exchange for fuel. Those negotiations are reportedly in the final stages, with the help of the Qatari government. President Biden has also said he won’t back a ceasefire until Hamas releases all hostages, though the US is reportedly pushing Israel to hold off on a ground invasion to see if more hostages can be released. Hamas says more than 20 of the hostages have died as a result of airstrikes — something Israel dismisses as part of Hamas’s “psychological warfare.”
CNN: Israel’s defense minister said Monday they’re preparing a “multilateral operation” from “air, ground, and sea” to wipe out Islamist Hamas.
Storm a blowin’ thru! (Snow anyway)
(CNN not theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) Parts of the northwestern US and Northern Plains are expecting the first significant snowfall of the season today. A surge of cold air and deep moisture is expected to spread from Washington and Oregon through much of Montana in the coming hours before a potent storm drops into the Northwest later tonight. Many high-elevation areas will be buried in more than a foot of fresh snow, meteorologists say, while some lower-elevation areas will see the snow melt and refreeze — potentially causing treacherous ice to form along roadways and sidewalks. Wind speeds will also increase during this time and blow snow, which could significantly reduce visibility and worsen travel.

(CNN not theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) At least 158 vehicles crashed along Louisiana’s I-55 on Monday after dense fog caused several pileups. Authorities said at least seven people were killed and dozens of others were injured when the “super fog” heavily impacted the area just west of New Orleans.

Attack on our greatest President
(CNN or theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) Maybe a mini reunion… Michael Cohen and former President Trump. Today, the two could come face to face in court as Cohen testifies in Trump’s New York civil fraud trial. Cohen worked as a lawyer and fixer for Trump for over a decade, and once said he’d “take a bullet” for his ex-boss. The pair’s relationship deteriorated as Cohen became a key figure in investigations against Trump, including over alleged hush money payments. Cohen turned against his ex-boss, calling him a “con man” and a “cheat.” Now, he is expected to testify about how the Trump Organization allegedly inflated the value of its real estate holdings. Trump is expected to be in court today.
Terror attack or just a total nutcase?
(CNN & theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) Who had travelers on edge… an Alaska Airlines pilot. Sunday, an off-duty pilot allegedly shut down engines (pulled the fire extinguisher handles to cut engine fuel) on an Alaska Airlines plane traveling to San Francisco. The pilot was riding in the cockpit jump seat — not rare for off-duty pilots commuting home or to another shift.
The aircraft’s captain and first officer quickly responded to keep the engines from failing completely, the airline said.
The flight crew removed the dude from the cockpit, subdued him until the flight carrying 80 passengers diverted and landed in Portland, Oregon. Suspect taken into custody, facing 83 counts attempted murder and reckless endangerment. Liberal FBI is investigating…
Alaska Airlines said they’re reaching out to each passenger “to discuss their experience and check in on their well-being.” Aww, that’s sweet.
Man arrested for his 2nd Amendment!
(CNN not theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) QUOTE: “It was an honest mistake.” — Washington state Sen. BASED Jeff Wilson, in a statement after he was recently arrested in Hong Kong for carrying a gun through an airport (AT LEAST HE WASN’T LOADED UP WITH DRUGS LIKE BRITTNEY GRINER). The Republican state senator said he did not realize he had packed his pistol in his briefcase while he and his wife were traveling for a vacation to Southeast Asia. He now faces a firearm offense punishable by up to 14 years in prison and a fine of more than $12,000.
Messy women even in ICELAND!
(CNN or theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) Who’s had enough… Women in Iceland. Today, tens of thousands of women in Iceland, including the prime minister, are walking out on their jobs to protest gender inequality. Even though Iceland is ranked as one of the world’s most progressive countries when it comes to gender equality, some women still earn at least 20% less than their male counterparts. As part of the protest, women are also being encouraged not to do any household chores to show “the importance of their contribution to society.” This will be Icelandic women’s first full-day strike in almost 50 years.

(CNN or theSkimm Tue. 10/24/23) The United Auto Workers union ordered 6,800 workers to strike a massive Ram truck facility on Monday. The union said it launched the new strike because Stellantis, which makes vehicles under the Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Chrysler brands, has “the worst proposal on the table” for improving workers’ pay and benefits. Located about a half-hour north of Detroit, the plant produces the Ram 1500 pickup and is the company’s “biggest moneymaker,” the UAW said in a statement Monday. There are now more than 40,000 UAW members on strike as it enters its sixth week, with 14,600 now on strike at Stellantis, joining the 16,600 on strike at Ford and 9,200 on strike at GM.
