HAKE NEWS, Hr 1 | Tue. 11-28-23

  • Webster names “authentic” word of the year 2023; runner up: “deepfake” (last year was “gaslighting”)  //  Israel-Palestine prisoner swap and truce continues; Elon Musk visited Israel, met with Bibi, wants to rebuild Gaza  //  Rosalyn Carter funeral: Melania’s going, not Trump  //

The Dictionary is Fake News

(theSkimm Tue. 11/28/23) “Authentic” — Merriam-Webster’s 2023 word of the year. Real ones know.

America's oldest dictionary, Merriam-Webster said it saw a "substantial increase" in online searches for it this year. In a world of fake people, fake things like LGBTIQ, fake “love,” fake “racism,” fake politicians, and fake news!

The interest was "driven by stories and conversations about AI [artificial intelligence], celebrity culture, [FAKE] “identity,” and social media", the dictionary publisher said… because it has a number of meanings, including "not false or imitation" and also "true to one's own personality, spirit, or character".

"Although clearly a desirable quality, 'authentic' is hard to define and subject to debate," Merriam-Webster said. They claimed, without evidence, that "the line between 'real' and 'fake'" became increasingly blurred.

One of the runner-ups for the top was "deepfake"...

Other top words from 2023 include the internet slang "rizz" - short for charisma, meaning romantic appeal or charm - and "indict", which saw a surge in interest after former President Donald Trump was indicted, or charged, in four separate legal cases.

In 2022, the word of the year was "gaslighting", a colloquial term for manipulating somebody to cause them to question their own realities or beliefs.

Israel-Palestine war drama

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) The Israel-Hamas truce in Gaza has been extended by two additional days, officials said Monday. Under the agreement, Hamas will release 10 hostages each day in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian detainees, a senior Israeli adviser said. The initial four-day truce, which was slated to end today, marked the first major diplomatic breakthrough in the conflict, bringing a temporary respite (REH-spuht for American, REH-spite for English) to the besieged enclave and allowing humanitarian aid into the region. Hamas has so far released 69 hostages and Israel has freed 150 Palestinians from prison. Still, Israel believes there are 173 people taken October 7 who remain trapped in Gaza, stated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office to CNN today.

(theSkimm Tue. 11/28/23) Elon Musk traveled to Israel after coming under fire for endorsing an “antisemitic” "conspiracy theory" on X (MSM fake news, it was benign). Musk toured a town attacked by Hamas on October 7th, held a conversation with Israel’s prime minister (BIBI?! He wants to help rebuild Gaza after the war, nice), and discussed the potential deployment of Starlink over Israel and Gaza. The visit came as advertisers have pulled their ads from the social media platform, potentially costing the company up to $75 million. (X is suing Media Matters over the fake smears.)

Rosalyn Carter funeral

NOT really READ: (CNN Tue. 11/28/23) US presidents and other leaders will travel to Atlanta today to bid a final farewell to former first lady Rosalynn Carter at a private tribute service. President Jimmy Carter, who is 99 and receiving hospice care at home, is expected to attend the memorial service for his late wife, his grandson said. Others expected to attend include President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, former President Bill Clinton and former first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama and Melania Trump.

NOT READ: Rosalynn Carter, who spent most of her life working on humanitarian projects alongside her husband and was a fierce advocate of mental health reform and destigmatizing mental illness, died on November 19 at the age of 96.

HAKE NEWS, Hr 2 | Tue. 11-28-23

  • Children are taking more melatonin than ever, to sleep  //  Young Thug on a RICO trial for co-founding a violent gang in Atlanta  //  Dr. Jill’s put up 98 trees at the White House  //  Southwest passenger jumped out the emergency exit, jumped on the wing, and got chased on the tarmac, I guess — wasn’t making sense  //  Biden not at the climate summit, agitators mad  //

Drugging kids??

(theSkimm Tue. 11/28/23) Who’s napping more: Children. A recent study found that the use of melatonin for American children under the age of 14 is "exceedingly common” (increased in the last two decades across all ages). About one in five children are given melatonin — a hormone produced in the brain that controls a person's sleep cycle — by parents to help them sleep. Earlier this year, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine issued a health advisory to parents against giving the supplement to children and encouraged them to seek out a doctor before doing so. (On some occasions, they end up in intensive care from over-ingestion… most have no symptoms.)

Oh, he’s an actual thug??

(theSkimm Tue. 11/28/23) Young Thug’s trial starting. Yesterday, the Grammy-winning rapper's trial for racketeering got underway. Born Jeffery Lamar Williams (he’s 32, about Joel Friday’s age, not all that young anymore, 6 known children per Wikipedia, pioneer of the mumble rap microgenre), he’s being accused of co-founding a violent street gang in Atlanta. Last year, Williams was arrested and charged with eight counts, including conspiring to break a federal law (RICO) intended to combat organized crime. Prosecutors say that his record label, YSL, is actually a front for a gang connected to the national Bloods gang. They're also using his lyrics as evidence of the gang’s existence. Some co-defendants have already taken plea deals. Williams has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Unchristian “White House”

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) 98 Christmas trees are meticulously placed throughout the White House this year. First Lady “Dr.” Jill Biden unveiled the official holiday décor on Monday after hundreds of volunteers transformed the historic halls into a winter wonderland.

Lot of Riff Raff among airplane passengers

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) QUOTE: “We commend our flight and ground crews for their swift action.” — Southwest Airlines, issuing a statement following an odd disturbance Sunday at a New Orleans airport. While a Southwest aircraft was stationary at a gate, a man opened an emergency exit door and jumped onto the plane’s wing, creating a frantic chase on the tarmac. Authorities quickly subdued the passenger and said he appeared “incoherent and not fully aware of his surroundings.”

Climate propaganda (BASED Biden not participating?)

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) President Joe Biden is not expected to attend the opening of the global COP28 climate summit in Dubai this week, according to a White House schedule of the president’s events. Biden’s absence has the potential to frustrate climate advocates both at home and abroad, though some activists have called into question the effectiveness of the international climate summit process. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also not expected to travel to the gathering, which will be attended by nearly 200 other countries. The US and China, however, recently announced a major climate agreement to jointly reduce their planet-warming pollution.

Tunnel Collapse!

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) Efforts are underway to rescue 41 workers trapped after a tunnel collapse in India. The men have been trapped since November 12 when part of the tunnel they were helping to construct in the country’s Uttarakhand state gave way, blocking their only exit with more than 200 feet of broken rock, concrete and twisted metal. Earlier today, rescuers successfully drilled through to the men and appear to be in their final stretch to bring the workers to safety. Video broadcast on local television today showed jubilant scenes outside the tunnel, with people smiling and breaking into song after the drilling stopped.

NOT READ: Google deleting accounts!

(CNN Tue. 11/28/23) Beginning Friday, Google is moving ahead with its plan to delete accounts that have been inactive for at least two years. The company said in May the move is primarily intended to beef up security, as older accounts are more likely to rely on recycled passwords and less likely to employ measures like two-step verification — making them far more vulnerable to issues like phishing, hacking and spam. Google has been sending warnings to affected users since August, with multiple alerts sent to impacted accounts and user-provided backup emails. Google accounts include everything from Gmail to Docs to Drive to Photos, meaning all content sitting across an inactive user’s Google suite is at risk of erasure.
