Storm coming in // University Gaza drama protests drama // MeToo debunked Harvey Weinstein knocks down one of two convictions // TikTok ban? ByteDance not selling! //
*Storm’s a’comin’ in!
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) A multi-day storm threat is set to impact millions of people in the central US through the weekend. Forecasts show parts of Texas, Missouri and Iowa are in the direct pathway of multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms.
*Dumb university ‘protests’
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) Unamerican “US” protests over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are growing in number and intensity, most notable and degenerate on college campuses. At New York’s Columbia University, where protests began last week, the faculty senate is expected to vote today on a resolution admonishing the school’s Egyptian female president, Minouche Shafik, over several of her decisions. Minouche, or Nemat, Shafik has faced criticism for authorizing police to shut down student protests on campus (GOOD FOR HER).
On the West Coast, USC, the University of Southern California, on Thursday canceled its main commencement ceremony (used to be known as graduation) next month, citing “new safety measures in place.” Nearly 100 people have been arrested on the campus as numerous other institutions report clashes between degenerate protesters and based police.
*MeToo DEBUNKED
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) theSkimm: Whose conviction was overturned… BASED Harvey Weinstein’s. Yesterday, New York’s highest court overturned the disgraced Hollywood producer’s 2020 rape conviction — tossing the verdict of the landmark #MeToo trial. Dozens of women’s accusations against Weinstein in 2017 sparked the #MeToo movement, putting a spotlight on the sexual harassment that women CLAIM TO face.
In a 4-3 decision, the court found that the judge who presided over the case committed an “egregious” error by allowing women to testify on allegations that weren’t related to the case(!!). In the dissenting opinion, one judge wrote that overturning Weinstein’s conviction is “whitewashing the facts to conform to a he-said/she-said narrative.”
One accuser reportedly said “our truth isn't overturned.” Weinstein won’t be released from prison since he was sentenced to 16 years in a separate rape case in Los Angeles (OVERTURN THAT ONE TOO!). New York prosecutors say they plan to take up the case again, but that means Weinstein’s accusers might have to retell their stories on the stand.
CNN: The New York appeals court on Thursday overturned the sex crimes conviction against Harvey Weinstein, the powerful Hollywood producer whose downfall stood as a symbol of the #MeToo movement. The court ordered a new trial, stating that the use of “prior bad acts” witnesses should not have been allowed. The ruling sent shockwaves through communities of sexual assault survivors, particularly the more than 100 women who have accused Weinstein of assault and harassment.
Weinstein, 72, was convicted in 2020 of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape, and he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. He has maintained his innocence and denied any nonconsensual sexual activity. (“CONSENT” IS THEIR ONLY STANDARD OF MORALITY.)
*Based TikTok
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance said Thursday that it has no plans to sell the social media platform, its first official response on the fraught issue since President Joe Biden signed a bill that could lead to a nationwide ban of the popular app. “ByteDance doesn’t have any plan to sell TikTok,” the Beijing-based company said in a statement.
NOT READ: Lawmakers have warned that TikTok is a national security threat, and the legislation signed by Biden this week forces the company to find a new owner within months or be banned from the US entirely. Complicating matters, there is no consensus on a favorite bidder even if the company were to consider a sale. Experts say the prospect of a TikTok sale could lead to a feeding frenzy, drawing out everyone from tech companies to retailers and private equity firms.
HAKE NEWS, Hr 2 | Fri 4-26-24
Boeing Starliner and NASA going to ISS next month? // Wealth gap “racism” propaganda // Economy weak // Hamas hostage drama // Not read: persecution of Trump //
*Watch the Door Plug on Boeing’s Starliner space ship!
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is preparing for a historic astronaut launch after years of delays and setbacks. The long-awaited mission is on track to carry two NASA astronauts — Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore — to the International Space Station. If successful, the Starliner will join SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft in making routine trips to the space station, keeping the orbiting outpost fully staffed with astronauts from NASA and its partner space agencies. The mission is scheduled to take off from Florida as soon as May 6, but a NASA administrator emphasized the launch will take place “when we’re ready.” Notably, Boeing’s space division operates separately from its embattled commercial airline team, and officials at NASA and the US aerospace giant have routinely sought to make that distinction.
**Commie “wealth gap” propaganda
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) What’s gotten even bigger (under COMMUNIST female policies)… The wealth gap*. New “research” found that white families had an average of $1.4 million compared to [b]lack “families’” roughly $211,000 in 2022 — pushing the average wealth gap to more than $1 million. Hispanic families had an average of about $227,000. The “report”* blamed the gap between white and [b]lack families on “the stubborn legacy of racist housing policies,” as many families’ wealth comes from homeownership.
*communist NBC: New research by the Urban Institute, a nonpartisan think tank (RUN BY A BUNCH OF WOMEN, NONE OF THEM NORMAL WHITE) focused on economic and social policy research
Though 2022 estimates suggest homeownership rates among [b]lack, Hispanic, and Asian families are increasing, [b]lack Americans remain the only racial group with a homeownership rate below 50 percent.
theSkimm continues…Oh and speaking of dollar bills, stocks tumbled yesterday after the US reported a slowdown in the economy’s growth. It only expanded by about 1.6%, suggesting the Federal Reserve won’t cut interest rates before the end of the summer.
*Economy all pathetic like the U.S. birthrate
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) US economy grew by a piddly 1.6% in the first quarter, a much slower pace than expected. Interest rates are also hovering at a two-decade high, but fortunately for Americans, analysts say a recession this year isn’t in the cards.
*Hamas hostage drama
(CNN or theSkimm Fri 4-26-24) What 18 countries are calling for… The release of hostages. The US and 17 other countries came together yesterday to demand that Hamas release all Israeli hostages being held in Gaza.
NOT READ: They made the appeal after the US proposed the Palestinian militant group sign off on a cease-fire deal with Israel that would pause the fighting for six weeks in exchange for 40 hostages. The Israel-Hamas war crossed the 200-day mark earlier this week; so far, the fighting in Gaza has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
CNN: QUOTE: “I love you. Stay strong. Survive.” — Parents of Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, sending a personal message to their son after a newly released hostage video provided the first sign in over 200 days that he was still alive. Goldberg-Polin, then 23, was kidnapped on October 7 during Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
*NOT READ: Persecution of the President
CNN: The Supreme Court appears ready to reject former President Donald Trump’s claims that he should receive immunity for alleged crimes he committed during his presidency to reverse the 2020 election results. The high court also signaled during oral arguments Thursday that his trial could be delayed until after the November election. This creates the possibility that Trump could be reelected before a trial and make the blockbuster election subversion case go away. The arguments came as Trump is facing a trial in New York for the hush money criminal case. Court will resume today after prosecutors on Thursday wrapped up their testimony with Former American Media Inc. chairman David Pecker, who described in detail how he worked with Trump and his allies to buy up damaging stories about Trump throughout the 2016 campaign.
theSkimm: The Supremes don’t appear to buy former President Trump’s immunity claim.
The Supreme Court is weighing whether former presidents — one in particular — can be prosecuted for official actions taken during office. A “no” ruling could shut down Trump's federal election interference case. The justices spent a large part of yesterday’s hearing questioning whether Trump's conduct on Jan 6 were private or official acts. Trump’s lawyer conceded that some of 45’s alleged actions were private acts, suggesting he could be prosecuted for them regardless of what SCOTUS decides.
It doesn’t seem likely that the justices will sign off on Trump’s broad claim of immunity, but they debated where the line for presidential immunity exists. The conservative justices questioned if taking away too much immunity could lead to politically motivated prosecutions of former presidents. Whereas the liberal justices seemed worried giving presidents too much immunity could give them free reign to commit crimes, turning the Oval Office into “the seat of criminality.” The justices could send the case back to the lower courts, which would then be responsible for deciding which of Trump’s actions are considered official. That could delay Trump’s trial until after the election — which Trump’s legal team has sought for months.
Trump’s immunity case stands to be one of the most influential cases that the Supreme Court is taking up this year. The decision, expected in June, could set a new legal precedent regarding presidential immunity.
