(CNN or theSkimm Wed 5-29-24) The White House has announced new actions to modernize America’s electrical grid, paving the way for clean energy and fewer outages (YEAH RIGHT). This comes as weather-related power blackouts are rising thanks to stronger storms putting more pressure on the nation’s outdated infrastructure. (YEAH RIGHT… feels like liberal propaganda, not the whole truth whatsoever.)

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 5-29-24) Hundreds of thousands of people in the southern and central US are now contending with widespread power outages after enduring an unrelenting series of storms. Around 500,000 utility customers in Texas were without electricity early today, including more than 240,000 in Dallas County. At least eight people have been killed in the state since Saturday as severe weather pummeled the region over Memorial Day weekend. After a brief reprieve today, another round of powerful storms will rumble back into the same area Thursday, the National Weather Service said. Forecasts show threats of large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Closing Arguments Wrap Up in Trump's Hush Money Trial

(CNN & theSkimm Wed 5-29-24) Yesterday, prosecutors and former President Trump’s lawyers delivered their final pitches to the 12-person jury. Trump’s defense team attacked the credibility of the prosecution’s star witness Michael Cohen, calling him the “GLOAT” — greatest liar of all time. The defense also said Trump believed he was paying Cohen for legal work. Meanwhile, prosecutors told jurors that Trump took part in a “conspiracy and a cover-up” to protect himself during his 2016 presidential campaign, which included hiding a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

The jury’s expected to begin deliberations today. They could convict or acquit Trump on all or some of the 34 counts of falsifying business records. In order to reach a verdict, the jury must be unanimous. Otherwise there could be a hung jury and a mistrial. A verdict could come as soon as this week, ahead of the Biden-Trump debate next month. Trump has pleaded not guilty and has denied the affair with Daniels.

You may have heard: Unhappy liberal actor Robert De Niro Clashed With Pro-Trump Protesters Outside the Trial’s Courtroom (NBC) — After a news conference outside the Manhattan courtroom where Trump is on trial, De Niro got into it with a crowd of protesters who called him a "little punk" whose "movies suck [STINK]."

"The Twin Towers fell … just over there. This part of the city was like a ghost town, but we vowed we would not allow terrorists to change our way of life. ... I love this city. ... Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country, and eventually he can destroy the world," De Niro said. (WHAT A NUTCASE, HUH?)

…On the way back to his car… protesters called him a "wannabe," "paid sell-out" to the DNC (Democrat National Committee), "nobody" and a "little punk" whose "movies suck."

"You're not going to intimidate," De Niro replied. "That's what Trump does. ... We are going to fight back. We're trying to be gentlemen in this world, the Democrats. You are gangsters. You are gangsters!"

"You're washed up," a protester yelled.

"F--- you," De Niro shot back (an 80-year-old man out of control like this).

…. On Friday, the Biden campaign released a new ad featuring De Niro — who was nominated this year for an Oscar for the movie "Killers of the Flower Moon."

CNN: 87-year-old pontiff issued an apology (CNN IS FAKE NEWS, saying it was FOR using a slur, but they never admitted to using a slur!)

Italian media on Monday had quoted unnamed Italian bishops in reporting that Francis jokingly used the term “faggotness” (Yesterday’s CNN report had translated it “faggotry”) while speaking in Italian during the encounter. He had used the term in reaffirming the Vatican’s ban on allowing gay men to enter seminaries and be ordained priests.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said Francis was aware of the reports and recalled that the Argentine pope, who has made outreach to LGBTQ+ Catholics a hallmark of his papacy, has long insisted there was “room for everyone” in the Catholic Church.

“The pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms [WHY IS A CHRISTIAN USING SUCH A TERM?!], and he extends his apologies to those who were offended by the use of a term that was reported by others,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said.

… With the statement, AP claims Bruni carefully avoided an outright confirmation that the pope had indeed used the term, in keeping with the Vatican’s tradition of not revealing what the pope says behind closed doors. But Bruni also didn’t deny that Francis had said it. ….

(CNN or theSkimm Wed 5-29-24) President Joe Biden is not altering his policy toward Israel following the recent Israeli strike that killed more than 45 people at a displacement camp in Rafah, the White House said Tuesday. Despite international outrage over the strike, the White House indicated that the attack did not cross a red line that would affect US support. Notably, munitions made in the US were used in the deadly strike, a CNN analysis has found.

Also on Tuesday, the temporary pier constructed by the US military to transport aid into Gaza broke apart in heavy seas, the Pentagon said. The repairs will take more than a week, further delaying efforts to get the maritime corridor fully operating.

The gene sequence of viruses isolated from the alpacas shows it is closely related to the H5N1 viruses currently circulating in dairy cattle. For more than two decades, H5N1 has primarily affected birds. In the past two years, however, the virus has been infecting a wider variety of wild and farmed mammals, raising concern that it could be moving closer to becoming a pathogen that can transmit easily between people. Human cases have been reported sporadically around the globe over the years, including three in the US, but no person-to-person transmission has been reported in the ongoing US cattle outbreak.

For months, polls have shown the ruling African National Congress party could lose its majority for the first time since Nelson Mandela led it to power in 1994. If support for the ANC drops below 50%, the party will be forced to enter into a coalition government. Almost 28 million people are registered to vote — the highest number to date, according to the Independent Electoral Commission.
