(Click Orlando, Feb 27) ‘Cowardly scumbags:’ Volusia County sheriff condemns antisemitic messages spouted by hate groups: Sheriff Mike Chitwood calls recent acts of hate in Volusia County ‘despicable, cowardly and reprehensible’

Sheriff Mike Chitwood was joined by faith and community leaders to condemn the “despicable, cowardly and reprehensible” attacks throughout the county, including a hate group using a portable projector to display antisemitic messages on the side of the Daytona International Speedway, what is believed to be the same group displaying antisemitic signs displayed on a pedestrian overpass, people handing out antisemitic propaganda [sic] in Ormond Beach and reports of hateful speech in the city of Port Orange.

“The reason behind this press conference today is when you’re trying to crush a radical group of cowardly scumbags, unity and sunshine destroy it,” Chitwood said. “The unity part is what you’re going to see in this room right now.”

He further said the people committing these hateful acts “are not part of our community.”

“This is nothing but pure, pure, pure evil... And you came to the wrong county,” Chitwood said.

Various Volusia County-based community and faith leaders spoke out about these recent hate crimes as well, including District 7 State Attorney R.J. Larizza, Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington, the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties Rob Lennick, Volusia County Democratic Black Caucus President Rev. L. Ronald Durham and Rabbi Pinchas Ezagui of Chabad Lubavitch of Greater Daytona, among others.

Florida State Rep. Mike Caruso alongside other state legislators announced the filing of HB269 Antisemitism Hate Crime Bill Thursday morning in Tallahassee. The aim of the bill is to define certain antisemitic acts as hate crimes and increase penalties for these hate crimes to the level of a felony.

"Antisemitism and hate have no place in Florida," Caruso said in part during the conference.

(CBN) Report on 2022 Anti-Semitism's Top Ten Shows It's a Sweeping Trend

JERUSALEM, Israel – The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) released its annual report on anti-Semitism, and the situation is not looking good. In fact, anti-Semitic incidents worldwide have become a sweeping trend. According to the report, 2022 Top Ten Worst Global Anti-Semitic Incidents, the SWC put American rapper Kanye West (aka “Ye”) at the top, saying his actions released a “tsunami of hate.” The Wiesenthal Center’s Rabbi Abraham Cooper explained why. “This is a man, before everything fell apart, (who) had over 50 million individuals between Twitter and Instagram; over 50 million people when he spoke, people bought whatever item it was that he was selling. Unfortunately, for reasons we're still not sure, at a certain point, he turned his attention to vilifying the Jewish people,” Cooper said.

FROM HAKE NEWS: (TheSkimm Thu.) Who’s shooting their shot…Finland. Yesterday, the country’s parliament overwhelmingly approved a measure to join NATO. After Russia invaded Ukraine last year, Finland and Sweden submitted applications to join the 30-member alliance. It marked a historic shift for both countries, especially since they’ve largely remained neutral. Now, Finland appears to be one step ahead of Sweden in its pursuit to join the club. Up next: Turkey and Hungary have to join the other 28 NATO members who’ve rolled out the welcome mat for Finland. As for Sweden, it faces an uphill battle with Turkey, which alleges Stockholm is harboring what Turkey considers terrorists. Talks with Turkey will start again next week.

BLM GETTING REPARATIONS

FROM HAKE NEWS: (TheSkimm Thu.) Who’s paying up… NYC. Earlier this week, the city agreed to pay up to $6 million to more than 300 protesters who alleged excessive use of force by police during a racial justice protest. In June 2020, hundreds of people gathered in the Bronx to protest George Floyd’s murder. According to a class-action lawsuit, NYPD officers boxed in demonstrators in a controversial tactic known as “kettling.” The officers then allegedly beat the protesters with batons and used pepper spray before issuing mass arrests. One of the lawyers in the suit called the NYPD’s actions a “premeditated show of force.” NYPD said the protests came at a “challenging moment” and that they’ve changed their practices. Now, it’s up to a federal judge to approve the proposed settlement, which is set to be one of the largest awarded per person in a mass arrest.
