Weak House
(CNN or theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) whatever yesterday was… The House isn’t shutting down the government, WEAK. Yesterday, most Democrats joined House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to pass a bill, went the bipartisan EVIL route like ousted RINO Speaker McCarthy — Democrat-preferred funding levels a la Nancy Pelosi. Notably, the bill does not include additional aid for Israel or Ukraine.
The House Freedom Caucus, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), said it gave not “a single meaningful win for the American people,” not enough budget cuts or money for border security, but they’re holding back from ousting weak Mike Johnson.
Yesterday, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) — part of the House Freedom Caucus — accused McCarthy of intentionally elbowing him in a hallway. McCarthy reportedly said, “If I’d kidney punched him, he’d be on the ground.” Gaetz is calling for an ethics investigation.
BTW: Puffed up chests as you heard earlier this hour:
(CNN but theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) During a Senate hearing about unions, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) — a former MMA fighter — offered to enter the ring with the president of the Teamsters union, Sean O’Brien (Irish?). Mullin confronted O’Brien over tweets calling the senator a “greedy CEO” — “quit the tough guy act… #LittleManSyndrome.” Mullin told O’Brien, “you wanna run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults, we can finish it here.” Mullin then told him “stand your butt up” before 82-year-old Socialist atheist-unchristian Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) broke it up by telling him to sit down and calling him a US Senator. How embarrassing.
DC March for Israel
(CNN not theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) Thousands of Jews and allies of the Jewish community gathered Tuesday at the “March for Israel” rally in Washington, DC. The march is believed to be the largest pro-Israel gathering in the US since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. The demonstrators denounced antisemitism and many speakers expressed sympathy for innocent Palestinians suffering during the conflict. “The simple human truth is that you don’t have to choose. You can abhor the suffering of Palestinian families and the suffering of Israeli families like mine,” said Alana Zeitchik, adding six members of her family remain held hostage. Also on Tuesday, President Joe Biden said a deal to free some 200 hostages is “going to happen” as officials say they are nearing an agreement.
Ohio bus crash
(CNN not theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) A charter bus carrying students to a band performance was involved in a fatal crash Tuesday on Interstate 70 in central Ohio. Six people were killed, including three teenage students, two parent chaperones and a teacher in an SUV, officials said. The students who died were “bright lights full of life who lost their lives way too young,” Derek Varansky, the superintendent of the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District, told those gathered for a Tuesday night vigil. According to preliminary reports, the chain-reaction crash involved the bus, two commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the tragedy.

UK plan to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda blocked by Supreme Court
(CNN & theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) Britain’s controversial plan to deport asylum-seekers to Rwanda was struck down by the UK’s Supreme Court today (unconstitutional because they would be "at real risk of ill-treatment”). The decision is a severe setback to some conservative government plans that drew international attention, a potentially fatal blow to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s flagship policy on migration and setting up an anticipated revolt from the right wing of his Conservative party.
Biden and Xi
(not CNN but theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) So-called "President" Biden and Chinese President Xi Jingping (correctly pronounced Xí Jìnpíng). Today, the two leaders are meeting for the first time in a year amid concerns over everything from spy balloons to military tensions on water and in the sky. Expectations for the California meeting — taking place during the annual APEC summit — are low. Though, the two have apparently signed off on a climate agreement ahead of today's meeting. Biden and Xi could also find consensus on a few other things: that it’s time to reopen military-to-military communications and to take AI software out of nuclear command systems. They may also agree to crack down on fentanyl, which is created with chemicals primarily sourced from China and part of an uptick of overdose-related deaths in the US. Ahead of the meeting, Biden said the goal is “to get back on a normal course” with China.
What’s cooling off… inflation!
(not CNN but theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) What’s cooling off…Inflation. Yesterday, the Labor Department released new data that paints a not-so-scary picture of the economy last month. Overall, the consumer price index (CPI) didn’t change much month to month — which is the lowest it’s been since July. That’s thanks to stuff getting a little cheaper, including gas. Still, it rose from the same time last year by 3.2%. Wall Street was happy about the news, with the Dow jumping almost 500 points — the best day it’s had since April. Economists think inflation will continue to drop — and that the latest report could sway the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates this year.
Evil woman promoting evil
(Not CNN but theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) Evil singer 44yo Pink (real name Alecia Beth Moore Hart, "Irish-German-Lithuanian-Jew" not read: parents divorced when she was 10, had a miscarriage at 17, proposed to her husband, promotes having anxiety and depression) — Pink is giving away banned books (2,000 at Florida concert) — with sexual content or themes of sexuality, gender identity and race.
"It's confusing, it's infuriating, it is censorship," she said. Pink has joined forces with far-left anti-Trump pro-censorship Pen America (who censor truth and promote lies — they’re a bunch of “journalists,” scum of the earth!)
She put out a statement released by the group. "It's especially hateful to see authorities take aim at books about race and racism and against LGBTQ authors and those of colour (WHAT IS SHE BRITISH?).
NOT READ: "We have made so many strides toward equality in this country and no-one should want to see this progress reversed."
NOT READ: Bein’ miserable
(Not CNN but theSkimm Wed. 11/15/23) What could turn that frown upside down… Micro-acts of joy. Yesterday, scientists found that doing even one small act of joy each day can boost your mood by over 25% each week. It's based on an analysis of surveys involving at least 11,000 people. According to the study, anything from a gratitude list to doing something kind for others had a sizable impact on mood each week. As one researcher put it, it could lead to “greater well-being, better coping, less stress, more satisfaction with relationships.” It’s the little things.
...Oh and speaking of joy: let’s discuss the pleasure gap.
