  • Embryo Lives Matter, says Alabama! Degenerates abusing IVF  //

*Don’t be killing embryos, LIBERALS.

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) After Alabama’s top court ruled frozen embryos are children, many have questions about the future of IVF.

Last week, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled fertilized, un-implanted embryos created via in vitro fertilization (IVF) are children under state law — referring to the type of facility where embryos are stored as a “cryogenic nursery.” The first-of-its-kind decision stemmed from a wrongful death lawsuit filed by three couples whose embryos were accidentally destroyed. The ruling doesn’t make IVF illegal, but there are rising concerns about its impact on the fertility treatment.

IVF involves extracting multiple eggs from a woman and fertilizing them with sperm in a lab. An IVF cycle usually produces more than one embryo. According to the CDC, about 4 million babies born each year in the US are conceived via IVF. There were 407 live births via IVF and “other related procedures” in Alabama in 2021. A single IVF cycle can cost between $15,000 and $30,000.

The ones that aren’t immediately implanted into a patient’s uterus to create a pregnancy usually get frozen for possible future use. The HHS estimated there were at least 600,000 frozen embryos being stored in the US in 2020. Embryos can be frozen for a decade or more. It’s not uncommon for them to be discarded, if there’s a genetic abnormality or patients decide not to use them.

Under the ruling, those who destroy embryos could be held liable for wrongful death, since the embryos are now legally considered children. It’s not clear if those who undergo IVF will have to store their embryos indefinitely (and if so, where and at what cost). It’s also unclear who bears the responsibility: clinics or patients.

Yesterday, the University of Alabama at Birmingham health system confirmed it has paused all IVF treatments while it evaluates the court’s decision. Many in the field say fertility clinics could close in Alabama, as doctors worry about risking civil or criminal charges. Others say the ruling could further increase the cost of IVF and serve as a framework for other states to follow Alabama. The anti-abortion group Live Action said an embryo “deserves and is guaranteed legal protection.”

theSkimm: After SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, many “abortion rights” (NO SUCH THING) advocates worried IVF would be restricted next. Now, the ruling in Alabama is already changing access to the fertility treatment for people (perhaps mostly women who squandered their youth?) who want to have children and view IVF as their best option.

**Invasion so bad Biden may not be able to ignore it?

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) The [black-on-the-inside, dark] White House is considering executive action that would effectively allow Biden to close the US-Mexico border to migrants crossing illegally — a maneuver reminiscent of President Trump’s crackdown, sure to invite fierce backlash among “progressives” (degenerates). The sick White House has not commented — unclear how the proclamation, if executed, would be different from what Trump enacted. In January, the US Border Patrol reported more than 124,000 encounters w/ illegals along the southern border. The ever-growing hordes fueling tensions between federal and state officials — they’re overwhelmed by already-stretched resources (TYPICAL COMMUNIST DESTRUCTIVE PLOY).

**Lame-o BIDEN’s dog

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) President Biden’s family dog Commander bit US Secret Service personnel at least 24 times! (BAD OWNER! BETA OWNER, ALPHA DOG), according to new documents obtained by CNN. The German shepherd joined the family as a puppy in December 2021 and was removed from the White House in October 2023.

*Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son, Charlie, aims to qualify for PGA Tour event

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) Charlie Woods could soon make his first PGA Tour start if he can advance at a qualifier event later today. LET’S GO CHARLIE!

**United with Israel!

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) QUOTE: “United conducted a detailed safety analysis in making this decision.” — United Airlines, announcing it will resume flights from the US to Israel beginning in March. This makes United the first major US airline carrier to resume flights to the country following the October 7 Hamas terror attack and ensuing war in Gaza. Based. Money money money money! Heck yes. (I’ll wait it out a lil longer before I take my trip tho…)

**Moon mission

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) An unmanned spacecraft is set to land on the moon today in the first US lunar landing attempt since the Apollo era (1961-1972, first crewed flight 1968). The mission, developed by NASA and Houston-based Intuitive Machines, will aim to land the Odysseus spacecraft, nicknamed “Odie,” near the lunar south pole at around 5:50 p.m. ET.

NOT READ: If successful, it would mark the first US vehicle on the moon in more than 50 years. If it fails, Odie would become the third lunar lander to meet its demise on the lunar surface in less than a year. Only three other countries — China, India and Japan — have reached the moon with robotic vehicles in the 21st century. Coverage of the historic event will stream live starting around 4 p.m. ET on the private company’s website, or you can follow CNN for the latest updates.

*Strikes from commie useless idiots!

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) There were 33 major strikes in the US last year, or a jump of 43%, according to new data from the Labor Department. It was the biggest number of large work stoppages in America in more than 20 years, with around 462,000 workers who were on strike at some point in 2023. There were also more than 16 million days of work lost when the number of strikers and the length of the strikes are taken into account. The greatest number of lost days of work was because of the strike by SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 actors and was on strike for about four months. Industry analysts anticipate several possible work stoppages could make headlines this year, including thousands of union members at breweries, Hollywood studios and airlines.

**‘Anti-trans’ policies don’t cause crime, LIBS

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) People whose business it is not are looking for answers… in Oklahoma. The death of a 16-year-old, whose family says identified as nonbinary, has LGBTQIA+ advocates outraged and putting a spotlight on Oklahoma’s anti-trans policies. Earlier this month, Nex Benedict, who used they and them pronouns, died one day after being involved in a fight in a high school girls' bathroom. It's unclear if the fight was related to bullying. Benedict's family says they were badly beaten and hit their head on the floor. An Oklahoma LGBTQIA+ advocacy group said what happened to Benedict is “absolutely related to the rhetoric and policies that are commonplace at the Oklahoma Legislature.” Police say Benedict didn't die as a result of trauma from the fight but that their death remains under investigation.

**ChRoNiC FaTiGuE SyNdRoMe

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) What researchers are talking about…Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). For the first time, a new study is providing clues as to what may be causing the condition, which affects an estimated 3.3 million people in the US and is more likely to affect women. Many CFS patients have found their symptoms, including sleep problems and issues with memory, are often dismissed or misdiagnosed. Now, the new study published yesterday has found that CFS might begin when some kind of infection alters brain function, specifically the part that decides how much effort to exert. The findings still need to be confirmed in a larger group. Still, scientists say this research is an important step toward uncovering what’s causing the exhaustion and could lead to potential treatments.

*Russia!

(CNN or theSkimm Thu 2-22-24) Governments around the world continue to react to Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny’s death, with the UK sanctioning six officials in charge of the prison where he died. Canada has also joined a growing list of nations that have summoned the Russian ambassador to their countries as global leaders demand a thorough investigation into Navalny’s untimely passing. President Vladimir Putin’s former speechwriter has said that discontent toward the leader in Russian society is on the rise amid ruthless fighting in Ukraine and after hundreds were detained for attending Navalny vigils. Some of the men who were arrested at memorial events were handed military draft summonses, according to a human rights monitoring group.
